Kioni port is very picturesque.
Few taverns there offer excellent views to the bay and expensive food.
The biggest problem in kioni and almost in whole ithaca is that every kind of " ship" dominate the island . Every beach, every bay , every rock!! has very close to the shore not one but more "ships" , so it isn't so pleasant to swim there. Next to kioni we tried tsirsimidia beach. Not the best beach but at least without tens of sailing boats.

This is a perfect harbour village. Good restaurants on the seafront and genuine Greece if you can be bothered to walk inland where you will be welcomed by orange trees. It would be easy to stay or spend a few hours here. There is also a commemoration of the place where the resistance attacked a German patrol boat. The usual tourist shops are there but not in great quantities. Enjoy the quaintness and peace.

Lots of nice restaurants and cafes. Bustling waterfront - when the day trippers (like us) arrived.
Nice shops and not over priced. Lovely jewellers. Views to die for.
Museum a bit disappointing. It was hard to find and the artefacts were interesting, but a bit wanting. I suppose Athens takes all the good stuff. They could have made more of Odysseus/Ulysses legends/history, beefed it up a bit

I had no idea how wonderful this little island would be. We stayed in Kioni and had a lovely week walking the different marked paths. The harbour is a great place to sit and eat and watch the boats come in. Don't go here if you want nightlife but if you love nature and peace and quiet it's fabulous.

It's a picturesque place where you'll find no end of subjects to practice your photographic skills. Sadly, I think the restaurants have all been having it a little easy and taken their combined eyes of the ball.
We were told that even the yachties – of which there were plenty – had taken to buying supplies from the small supermarket and cooking on board.
If you want to eat better head out towards Frikes or Stavros

This is just a grotty park for water caravans rented by gobshites and determined to spoil a quiet haven with their diesel engines and anchor dragging.

This is truly paradise. Quiet and sleepy even at night so may not suit a lot of people. But if you want heavenly views and traditional greece this is for you. Only 5 taverns and a couple of bars. No hotels no noise just lovely apartments looking out to sea and amateur sailors to entertain. Leaving today may have a little weep!

A beautiful harbour lined with restaurants and bars and full to the brim with visiting boats. A hive of activity and things to see from jewellery shops to hand made items, A photographers dream with wonderful walks to the old windmills and within easy reach of Frikes down the road. We go to frikes each year and always spend time in Kioni

If you dream of a verdant Greek island with pretty Venetian style houses then Ithaca is it, if you dream of a tiny harbour with a single row of houses around the edge, some villas stretching up the hillside, some bars to watch the world go by then Kioni is the only place. No hotel, just villas or rooms to rent privately or via companies such as Sunvil. Of course you can also visit by yacht and without a harbour master you have to get in early to get a mooring on the best side, or even now on the far side (we counted up to 36 yachts on this side one evening, mostly flotilla groups.) Very popular with yachts now that there is uncertainty in visiting Turkey and Ithaca and in particular Kioni has had a bumper year. Breakfast in a taverna watching the overnight boats leaving and others jockeying for mooring position with various degrees of skills or not could be the highlight of your day. Several good restaurants with usual Greek fare, from breakfast, lunch and dinner, harbourside, rooftop, hillside, take your pick. Basic food both in the eateries and well stocked supermarket rather expensive considering much of the food is locally sourced. (Cheese, yoghurt, wine, fruit and vegetables), Excellent walks in the area, both for the independent walker or by excellent local guides. Taxis available to other coves and beaches or local boats, just ask around. All parts of the village assessable to disabled. Little swimming area at the end of the village with metal ladder (although very slippery steps). Lovely swimming beach on the far ride (Cemetery beach) well worth a walk around or stop off on the walk through the woods to visit the three Venetian windmills. Altogether a great place to visit.

Probably the most beautiful town in Ithaca! Definitely worth a visit if you have a free day. But beware of the jewellery shop Tehnima - our experience in the town was seriously spoiled by its customer service. The suspicious supposedly silver ring we bought there left a stain on my finger, but we were denied a return by a very unfriendly owner of the shop. Beware :(

There was Alan a “tripper bost” that came in, but think it probably originated from Vathy which is further Soug.

It looks like a lovely harbour but is it dominated by yachts/flotillas? I just want a quiet holiday reading in the shade, swimming & a couple of tavernas. Don't really want to be surrounded by yachting groups. Thank you.
Written July 19, 2018
Yes, there are quite a few yachts here, although it is a quiet place and I am sure there are areas nearby with no yachts.
