Beautiful but super crowded
Jun 2021
This beautiful winery/vineyard has a gorgeous panoramic view of the entire area, with woodsy rolling hills and growing vineyards. There are plenty of outdoor tables, although it was extremely crowded when we went, with some people hanging out on picnic blankets. While the tables were spaced out at least six feet apart, I didn't see any signs asking patrons to wear face masks or anything. I think the wine tastings are still unavailable due to COVID. There were a few parties being held here, but it wasn't too loud, and everyone was minding their own business - thankfully, this vineyard had plenty of space, so we were all able to stay in our table areas. The whirlwind rosé was fantastic, and I actually finished most of my glass (a rarity for me). We ordered a cheese plate to offset the alcohol, and it was a few saran-wrapped cheese cubes and salami slices. I think they could have offered a nicer/better-prepared cheese plate that didn't look so hastily prepared. There was a food truck there serving really good pizzas, though. Nobody rushed us out, so we were able to sip our wine and talk at a leisurely pace.

Wait until after COVID
Dec 2020
The winery is in a beautiful location and the room where you can sit and enjoy wine by the glass is very nice. The COVID-response is not ideal. Upon entering, there is no indication of where to go and how until you wander into the larger room. Once there, you are told that you should go out and get food to bring back. Not being from the area, this wasn't really an option so I purchased the cheese and meat board for $12. This was a plate with some cubes of cheese, a few slices of salami, a few slices of progiutto and 1 strawberry. Maybe $3 worth of items served on a paper plate. At another table, a group of women with no purchases were hanging out playing games. Very appreciative that they were open on a Monday in this environment but even small adjustments would make this a much more worthwhile visit.

Cheese board comes from supermarket
Dec 2020
Great view, good service, good selection of wine but be prepared to eat cheese board from cheap supermarket. Disappointed. One cheeseboard defined for 2 people. So if you’re 3 the staff will ask you to order two plates.

Excellent Views, Superior Wines, Friendly Staff
Aug 2020
This was my first visit to the vineyard, and I was more than impressed! I can't say enough about how much I loved this place! The views of the surrounding hillsides and valleys are especially gorgeous. We happened to be here late in the afternoon and stayed until sunset, which did not disappoint!

The wines are quite spectacular for Connecticut! I know, I know...Connecticut wine. That's like saying "These pineapples from Maine are amazing!" But for New England wine, they were pretty darn good! We were introduced to several by a very knowledgable staff member...I think her name was Tammy. Because of Covid, they weren't allowing tastings at this time, so we settled on her suggestions and bought a bottle of Cayuga (deliciously sweet like a Riesling....a perfect summer wine) and a flavorful Cabernet Franc for four of us. I also enjoyed a glass of the Whirlwind Rosé. I understand the vineyard now has a dry rosé, but I didn't try that since I prefer sweeter wines.

The entire place was busy but picnic tables were spaced apart for social distancing (thank you!) and people had to wear masks when they were inside the building. We wish we had brought our dog since dogs are allowed on the property (except on the patio near the building for health reasons.) There is also a grassy area where you can set up a picnic as well as a natural spring with ducks for the kids to feed. We did, in fact, bring food to enjoy with the wine, but there was a food truck on site from a Mexican place in town and it was phenomenal.

While we were there, we saw a couple dressed up as if they were going to a wedding stopping by for pictures among the vines. Definitely Instagram worthy! We will definitely come back in the fall when the leaves are in color!

A view to die for
Jul 2020 • Couples
Brought some sub and coleslaw for dinner at a outdoor table. No reservations!
Beautiful views . Bought a bottle of their Chard and it was quite drinkable.last time ( several years ago) the wine was definitely not too good. They have definitely improved and should be congratulated . Very nice way to dine with friends in a very casual way.

It's a gorgeous vineyard. Especially, if you're there at sunset. As the sun sinks below the mountains and the lights begin to twinkel you would never know that Walmart, McDonalds, etc are just a mile in front of you. The wine is OK, pretty typical for Connecticut vineyards. Sitting outside in the summer is lovely. My only complaint is the noise inside. When the place is crowded it's hard to carry on a conversation.

The drive up top the vineyards was amazing enough but to be at the top at the wine bar was incredible. Absolutely gorgeous view definitely need a picnic and bottle or two. Wine was fantastic and staff was great... very knowledgable.

5 Star views, 2 Star wines (3.5 overall)
Oct 2019
Lets get one thing straight, this place is awesome when it comes to hanging out outside and enjoying the view. Since you are elevated you get great views of the grape vines and beyond.

However, the wines are basically table wines in my opinion. Not necessary what I would expect from a vineyard selling their wines at almost $30 a bottle.

Also, its a shame that you can't select the wines you want to taste. My wife and I did a tasting hoping to later purchase a bottle to enjoy on their property.

We had to try 3 sweet white wines (no dry whites were part of the tasting) and 2 average red blends.

If I could have chosen the wines I wanted to taste perhaps I would have purchased a bottle worthy of another star.

Beautiful Views, OK wine
Sep 2019 • Family
Gouveia boasts some beautiful views and its worth visiting just for that. The wine is OK. If you buy a bottle of wine to share with your group just know that they will only give you one glass of wine and the others will have to go up to the bar and ask for a glass themselves.

There is indoor and outdoor seating..outdoors is absolutely gorgeous. That said, there are not a lot of tables and seating and what they do have is old, crummy and falling apart. They really need to invest in some newer tables and chairs, what they have now is embarrassing.

Overall this is a great place to come with family and friends (or even your dog!), bring food along and share a bottle of wine!

Lovely Winery and Grounds!
Aug 2019
Stiopped here on the Ct Wine Trail and enjoyed a wine tasting. The staff were knowledgeable and friendly, The wines were ok, but nothing I had to have more of. The grounds are beautiful and the building itself is something to check out.
