The Hobbiton Movie Set tour is an essential stop on the itinerary for all visitors travelling through New Zealand, offering an interesting and entertaining experience incorporating the famous film set as seen in The Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit trilogies.

Fall in love with the Alexander family sheep and beef farm, just as acclaimed director Sir Peter Jackson did, as you journey through the village, with the mighty Kaimai Ranges towering in the distance. Your guide will then escort you around the set, showing you the intricate detailing, pointing out the most famous locations and explaining how the movie magic was made. You will be taken around the 12 acre set; past Hobbit holes, the Mill and into the famous Green Dragon™ Inn, where you can indulge in our exclusive, specially brewed beverages to conclude your own Middle-earth™ adventure.

With a few of us being fans we made sure that this was part of our New Zealand trip. It did not disappoint. Our guide Mike was fantastic and made the place come alive for us. The upkeep is very good and everything is well looked after and tended to. We had something to eat at the cafe which was... More

My partner and I recently visited the hobbit set and we were really lucky to have Julia as our tour guide. She was really fun and had a lot of interesting facts about the set and about the movie. Originally I was a bit sceptical about the price of the tour, however it was worth it!

Well worth the money! It was a lot larger than we expected and the guided were great. We had a snack near the end of the tour at the pub and it was great too. The scenery was fantastic!

We went with a group of only eight people, most of whom were real fans of the books and movies. We heard a lot about Peter Jackson's perfectionism. Everything was beautifully created and displayed.

I had heard mixed things about the Hobbiton Movie Set - some people were telling me it was incredible to witness; while others told me it was ruined by crowds. When I visited I had an incredible time - although keep in mind I'm a huge fan of the Tolkien's works. Following collection from the iSite in Matamata, we were... More

Glad I've been. Make sure you wear good footwear as it is a walking tour. Beautiful gardens really enjoyable. Ginger beer was very refreshing, there was also cider at the end. The guide went at a leisurely pace so allow plenty of time it's not a quick tour. The walk is on hills so may not be so easy for... More

We happened to be traveling through this area and decided to drive over and take the tour. You definitely want to be there as early as possible. Tour buses of people arrive around 10. We were there at 9:30 and still had to wait almost an hour before we could start our tour. Once you get your ticket, you have... More

If you are a Hobbit/LOTR fan, then of course this is a must see. From Shire's Rest, the tour takes around two hours, including transportation to and from. Once there, you feel completely transported to the world of Hobbiton. There will be plenty of Hobbit holes to take pictures of. Highlights include Bag End and Sam's house that served as... More

What a treat. We loved the tour , the detail and the friendly staff. As my uncle needs a wheel chair to get around they organized a golf cart with driver to take him around and give him a special tour. If you are a Lord of the Rings fan and visit New Zealand this tour is a must.

Everything you could wish for, and more. It really was awesome that the Alexanders decided to keep the set intact after the second construction. The time, attention to detail, and pride in this little gem is obvious. Took at tour with Emily, and she was superb! Despite there being many different tour groups going around the set at one time,... More
