Jones Family Farms, nestled in the White Hills of Shelton, with its 19th century dairy barn and homestead farmhouse, impresses the visitor as a peaceful and relaxed living environment. The beautiful countryside with its orderly rows of Christmas trees, neat stonewalls, and well-maintained fields are the result of efforts by seven generations of Jones family farmers. The farmers of the 400-acre working farm invite families to visit and harvest seasonal crops. Presently under cultivation are 200 acres of Christmas trees, 15 acres of strawberries, 15 acres of blueberries, and 25 acres of pumpkins, gourds and squash. The Jones farmers harvest these crops from three different farm locations known as the Homestead Farm, the Valley Farm, and Pumpkinseed Hill. The farm also manages 50 acres of hay land and 50 acres of woodlots. Over five acres of grapes are in production for the farm's winery.

Come here!!
Jun 2021 • Family
So I’m just gonna start off by saying if your bored on a summer day, COME HERE!! My family comes here in June and July (Strawberries in June and Blueberries in July) trust me, this place NEVER disappoints! Price is a little expensive, but not bad! Before Covid they had something called “The Berry Farrie” and now because of Covid, you have to walk, but it’s not a too long of a walk! Would recommend to everyone!

Thanks Travel Girl. During the "year like no other" of 2020, we had to eliminate the Berry Ferry that ferries guests to the harvest fields due to COVID sanitation challenges. What we learned is that guests enjoyed the peaceful walk as the listened to the birds or rustling of grass. Thus - we decided that moving forward for that season, we would continue to not have the Berry Ferry. During Blueberry Season, some of our fields are quite distant and we do indeed have the Berry Ferry operational during that season this year. We hope you can return and enjoy harvesting berries at our farm again! - Farmer Tom.

Anne hates kids
Jun 2021 • Family
We had a lovely family experience picking strawberries. They were plentiful and delicious. During our visit we were encouraged to visit the winery. While the wine was delicious, we were harassed and bullied by a woman named Anne until we finally left. She accused every child in the winery of being ours (ours were ages 14 and 12 and not poorly behaved). Yet any child walking around above the age of 2 brought a visit to our table by Anne to complain about whatever that kid was doing. It was the longest 45 minutes of our lives.

Mother’s Day outting
May 2021 • Friends
My GF and I came here for mother day...we made our reservation for a table in the inside. We each had a wine flight. We were only allowed to have one flight each and a glass of wine. You are allowed 90 minutes in the table and no more even if the winery is empty. It’s a beautiful place we will definitely be back

Thanks for the feedback Christina. With the capacity and spacing restrictions that we still have to operate within, the 90min Table Service reservation window is a balance between time for guests to enjoy a flight and sampling of wines with our lite-fare foods, and allow staff to clean between guests. For other readers, our current last reservation is 4:30p as we close at 6p, Fri-Sun. This can change during the seasons, so be sure to visit our website for the operation's guidelines current to your visit. We look forward to your return Christina! - Farmer Tom.

Laidback, safe winery
Apr 2021
We came here to have a glass of wine and enjoy the scenery, and were pleased at the overall experience. They have a good selection of wines (the pinot gris and the strawberry serenade were both excellent), as well as several cheeses, meats, and crackers to offset the alcohol. Most of the seating is outside, which is good for physical distancing. I was impressed at how well they also took safety precautions: we're required to make a reservation beforehand (you only get the table for an hour and a half), and they mark off which path to take so there isn't any crowding. You need to pay $20 for the reservation, but that is taken off your final bill. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. There are also tractors and other farm tools here as part of the vibe, and when they're in season, they also have pumpkins, strawberries and blueberries, and Christmas trees.

Thanks for making your review dustythoughts - we appreciate all feedback, and share with all our staff. We hope you can visit again as the vintages and offerings change, and of course the scenery changes also. Since you mentioned them, the next harvest-your-own crop will be strawberries in June. All the best - Farmer Tom.

Good Winery Visit
Aug 2020
I stopped in here on a Saturday afternoon to enjoy a nice wine visit with good weather. First thing to note is if you want to do a glass or bottle you need to make a reservation online first and can't just show up. Additionally there is a $20 deposit for the reservation but it is taken off the final bill. The grounds are beautiful and the staff are all wearing masks and being safe. They are also doing flights of wine in place of a tasting which I really appreciated. They have meats and cheeses for snacks in case you are hungry and it is a lovely spot to sit and relax. Overall I'd recommend a visit and try out their wines.

Xmas tree
Nov 2019 • Couples
So we visited Jones Family farm to do our annual Christmas tradition and harvest our 3 Christmas trees for the house. There is nothing like a fresh cut tree for celebrating the Christmas Season. I must say they did an awesome job of being organized on the first day of opening for the season. Much better organization today than in previous years. The day was perfect to go out and walk the hills to find the perfect tree. Everything went well until it was time to bring the tree to be tied and ready to be brought to the car. First and foremost I remember when if you harvested a tree, you actually paid less than a tree which was available at the barn. Secondly, when we brought our tree down we asked the man who was tying up our tree to please cut the tree evenly at the bottom and in addition to assist us with cutting off branches so we would be able to fit it in our tree stand. The man seemed to not be to happy to fulfill these requests. We are spending lots of money and to be given a hard time of meeting our requests was shocking. This has never happened to us before in all our years of buying our trees (3). This did not seem like a isolated event because another customer seemed to have a similar problem like us. Ultimately another gentleman stepped in and helped but I was just shocked at the lack of customer service. I hope this is not what we should expect going forward. Hence the drop in the ratings which is normally a 5 star review, this year I had to knock them down a peg. It did not go any lower because everyone else was really nice especially the young man who helped bring our 3 trees to the car and tied them up for us.

Greetings Andres - and thanks for this feedback. It was indeed our first day of the 2019 Christmas Tree season, and it was a little overwhelming with only one bailing location available. Apparently we were one of only two tree farms in the state that were open so early, and we didn't expect so many people to visit. The calendar jumped this year, so that also threw off our projections. Regardless, the service standards were not to your, nor our, expecations, and we will work to correct that for future opening days. Rest assured, that during the full rhythm of the season, we will be fully staffed. It was good to hear your comments that the organization was otherwise improved upon prior years! But - we will work harder to move your next rating back up a peg to 5 stars! For clarifications to other potential readers, any Harvest-Your-Own tree, no matter the size and no matter the species, is $75 for 2019. This includes Sales Tax within that amount, and the complimentary commemorative pewter ornament. While most trees in our barnyard do cost more than an HYO tree, we do have smaller table-top trees that are in our yard - referred to as "Elf" trees, individually priced with tags on them, priced as low as $19. - Farmer Tom.

Best wine in CT
Oct 2019
My wife and I had the opportunity to visit all of the vineyards in the CT wine passport this summer (and a few that aren't on the passport). By far Jones was the best. The people are extremely friendly and helpful and the wine was terrific. There is outdoor seating where you can enjoy a glass or two of the wine under a canopy or sit by a fire pit or fire place. Outside there is food available for purchased (cheese trays). There was apple cider for purchase for kids or non-drinkers.

The wine tasting was excellent and at checkout, I asked about a wine that wasn't included in the tasting and was given a small taste at no charge.

We drove back a month later (over an hour from our home) to purchase a few bottles of the Pinot Gris and merlot.

Henry was very knowledgeable and helpful.

The Jones Pinot Gris was the best white wine we had at any vineyard. This is a place you must go if you are interested in CT wine. EXCELLENT!!
