About
Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center (KTM&HC) is a beautiful, four-acre site in the heart of Ridgefield, CT that preserves and interprets hundreds of years of local and national history. We provide educational and cultural programs that connect past and present, with a focus on our former residents' experiences in the colonial era through the mid-20th-century. The four-acre historic site, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, features museum and outdoor walking tours, rotating exhibits, and scenic grounds and gardens. Visitors can learn about our c. 1713 tavern museum, check out the British cannonball embedded in our corner-post during the 1777 Battle of Ridgefield, and explore the early 20th-century walled garden and Garden House designed by famed architect Cass Gilbert.

This small, fascinating museum offers an interesting look into the history of the building, which has been, at various times, a post office, a hotel, a farmhouse, a private home, and a tavern. It's well-preserved and reflects its 18-century history with pride, and is now a local historical and cultural landmark. It also has a gorgeous garden, which can host small weddings as well. Take a tour of the place, the guides are super knowledgeable.

The Keeler Tavern staff created a wonderful program for our 8th graders. It brought the students through not only a tour of the grounds but a document and photo analysis as well. Performers took on the roles of the Cass and Julia Gilbert and brought the Gilded Age in Ridgefield to life.

For $8, the tour of Keeler Tavern is a steal. The 45-1hr tour was lead by a young man who was full of knowledge and history. We even learned where the terms "sweet tooth", "house warming" and "sleep tight" came from. Highly recommend the tour especially if interested in the American Revolution. Hidden gem!.

We visited the museum during our search for the perfect wedding and reception venue. The museum is a worth a visit if you are interested in historical New England sites. You will enjoy the property and Ridgefield as well.

Starting as a tavern in the 1700s, through a stint as a fashionable hotel and as residence of one of America's foremost architects, to its current life as museum and wedding venue, the Keeler preserves artifacts, clothing and settings spanning the centuries. Great for all but the very youngest (my 2 year-old grandson got bored).

A well-preserved 18th century building which was a family home, tavern and family home again to famous architect, Cass Gilbert, who added the Garden House and Charleston Garden.

Having survived the Battle of Ridgefield on April 27, 1777, when British forces attacked when they discovered it was a hive of revolutionaries. A cannonball lodged in the building remains on show.

Worth a look.

The Keeler museum was the venue for our son’s and daughter-in-law’s wedding. The gardens were lush and so beautiful like an English garden. The staff went above and beyond in helping them plan their special day. Kudos to the volunteers who maintain the gardens.I highly recommend The Keeler if your planning a small intimate wedding. Our guests stayed at the Hotel Zero Danbury, which we also highly recommend.

Arrived as the Museum opened and were greeted by John, who would be our guide for the next hour. He was very well acquainted with the history of the house, its occupants, and the area. We were joined with another couple who had a genealogical relationship to the Keeler family. Both the other man & I knew a lot of history, especially about the Revolutionary War.
