Pastoral beauty & easy hiking
Sep 2019
We go walk at the Audubon regularly. Gentle hiking through forests, shrubs, edges of wetlands, meadows and fields on interlocking loop trails. Great birdwatching. The airline trail intersects nearby. Nice center with art & small store & restrooms with friendly staff. No dogs, horses, or bikes on trails - this place is really for the birds!

Was a Golf Course before in Pomfret

My friend was telling me he used to golf there as he went to the Prep school near by

The Audubon society bought it and let nature come back .

It was amazing to see as he would point out the hole he would put on.

Nature Walk

We went to the Audubon Center for a walk in the woods and along the ponds at the site of the Edwin Way Teale farm. Very nice easy trails for birdwatching and saw evidence of beavers in the pond.

Exciting and interesting for adults and children alike, especially if you like birds, trails, etc.

This Audubon Center has a small shopping area; rooms with bird photos, and stuffed examples of local wildlife. They have all kinds of programs they advertise, including bird-banding, migration walks, montly lists of birds seen on their property, nesting boxes set up to provide safety to bird off-spring. Fun place for a family visit or walk. They also host talks, or musicians, or environmental movies on occasion.

Nice human walking trails amind all the birds, but no dogs

Several former farms have been turned into a nature reserve, with lots of birds visible among all the fields & forests. Numerous walking trails are available, as is a large welcome center with exhibits, rest rooms, etc. maintained by Audubon volunteers. Note this preserve no longer allows dogs to go with you on walks.
