Delightful local theater
Apr 2019 • Couples
Good theater works are presented. When you see one you'd like to see, I suggest you go. You'll find the acting and staging is highly professional. I think you'll have an enjoyable evening.

Little Theater, Quality Performances
Jun 2019 • Couples
My sweetheart and I recently attended the performance of "Funny Money" put on by the Newtown Players at the Little Theater. It's located on a side street off of Route 25 in Newtown (about 2 1/2 miles South of the Flagpole). I was expecting a large building but when we arrived, it looked as if it were a converted house situated on a hill. Parking is in a dirt lot at the bottom of stairs to go into the front entrance (if handicapped, you can let off a passenger around the side of it). We sat in the lobby, which was filled with playbills from prior performances since the theater opened 35 years ago. Entering into the theater, there were five rows of seating (non-reserved) with about 15 seats in each row. The audience is right up close to the actors. A neighbor of ours from Oronoque Village where we live is an actor there, so it was nice to see Tom's performance. It's a quaint little theater. Tickets were $20 during the week, and $25 for a Fri - Sun show. And they have wine/soda/water for purchase, and you get free snacks (cookies/chips). I'd recommend going to this venue. Only downside of it was the parking. After we pulled in, other cars parked behind us, and three other vehicles, and the people in those cars behind all of us seemed to not care that we had to wait for about 10 minutes until they came out. Otherwise, a great evening.

Cozy intimate theater
Aug 2016 • Couples
We went a few weeks ago in early August to see the play Sight Unseen. The theater is very cozy and intimate - you feel you are sitting alongside at the dinner table. The acting was excellent - you don't need to drive to a bigger city such as Hartford or Stamford.for a good theater experience. A lot more affordable too. Would recommend a reservation as the capacity is small.

Good local effort
Apr 2016 • Friends
A+ effort from the players with several different type of plays offered every season. A good alternative activity that can entertain teen through seniors. Parking can get difficult if the play draws a sold out crowd as the location is on a narrow road.

Don't miss this!

TP has been a part of Newtown's little secret destinations for over 70 years. I have been to many performances there, and it is always a cool experience. The playhouse is small, but comfortable, as every seat can see the action onstage, and hear the performers easily too.
Over the years, improvements have gradually been added so that 2 lobby restrooms are available, and refreshments offered at a reasonable price.
I only gave a very good rating because a visitor has to climb some considerable steps to enter, and sometimes one play or another is not quite up to par.
There is, however, some handicap parking up near the theatre, and if you pay attention to the reviews in the Newtown Bee you may pick up which play you would prefer.
But I would encourage anyone to go, it is a fun night out at a very reasonable price!

Surprise fun
Thought we would try the little theatre after been living in the area and n.y.c. for many years. We loved the efforts and passion of the volunteer actors. Being only about 8 to 10 rows you feel like part of the drama.highly recommend this gem in newtown
