Beautiful Painting

Kids loved looking at the painting. Very impressive. Painted by Wyland who does amazing art work of sea life.

This is a big piece of art. I'm sure you have seen his work in many of the historic whaling towns from New England to Hawaii. How fun to tick them all off your viewing list. they are there because of history. Dig deeper and you will find many amazing facts about the locations he picked

There are many hand painted art works on buildings in downtown New London. The visitor's center may have material talking about all of them. Makes for a nice walk around the city to find them all!

The Whaling Wall is just one of several walls painted by local artists. New London could and should be a great waterfront city not to be missed but it continues to struggle. You can walk the downtown area to see the wall art and enjoy a nice lunch.

Originally by Wyland, he painted whales all over New England. Has been touched up many times and still interesting and better than a blank wall I guess.

This is not one of his best as I recall. I've seen many across the country and have photographed them when I happen upon them. More simplistic than others.

If you are not already familiar with the artist Robert Wyland then it may not be a big deal to see one of his whales - you can learn more about the artist here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Wyland But there are other interesting murals near it. Three on Bank street alone, one of Hendrix, one of Greek Goddesses- a mural walk is listed... More

The Whaling Wall has been in place for a few years now. It's a nice painted scene of whales on the side of a building... I must say that it is a lot nicer to look at than a plain brick wall.

If you are in the vicinity of downtown New London, it is worth it to take in one of these Wyland classics. And unlike most of his walls, you can actually get up close. It is a special part of the Whaling City. It's recently been touched up and looks just as great as when it was new.

So it's whales and dolphins painted on the side of a building. Looks like some of the paint is chipping. If you are looking at the wall turn around and you will see another mural across the street. That mural had more detail. Come to find out the whale mural is one of many across the country which I thought... More
