Thoughtful and thought-provoking tours in a beautiful environment
This was my second Thames River history tour, and both were good. On both the guides seemed to enjoy themselves and our questions. The Mohegan teacher were very well prepared, brought a lot of items like drum, medicine bags and wheel, baskets, and flag. We also got to hear them speak and sing in the Mohegan language. I especially loved the songs/prayers.

Thames River Cruises - Mohegan Life & More
Mohegan life on the Thames was a wonderful, informative and entertaining trip up the River. With warmth and humor, Elders from the Mohegan Tribe shared some of their history and how it relates to the River. A relaxing, cool way to spend a few hours. Take the early cruise and have dinner on the deck of one of the many, water view restaurants nearby. Looking forward to taking the rest of the tours throughout the summer

A wonderful evening on the Thames with Paul and Marion--two knowledgeable and entertaining guides to the fascinating stories of New London and Groton history. Do not miss this fun experience. Based on the tour we went to visit Fort Griswold the next day which was also a wonderful visit. Thank you!

So exotic and fun way to see Connecticut

Great escape from city life. I live in New York
And when you take this taxi you feel like you could be anywhere in the world on the water. Try it.

Next to this Water Taxi in New London
Is the ferry to Fishers Island. Also
A wonderful experience.

Take a train from New York City for the day
You can catch it at Pennsylvania Train Station

Seeing a city from the water makes me smile. The captains and mates on the Water Taxi were friendly and welcoming. They suggested places for lunch. I enjoyed walking along the harbor in the park and relaxing on the pier while waiting for my train.

I heard of the Water Taxi from friends and family who had a great time so I decided to take my family on a beautiful Friday afternoon. We met the Taxi at Ft. Trumbull after a lovely walk through the old fort. We were greeted with smiles from the captain and first mate as we boarded the Taxi. The helpful volunteers greeted us with information of how the Taxi came to be and welcomed us aboard!

As we took off we learned about the amazing history of New London and even saw a submarine being worked on at Electric Boat! The staff were amazing with answering our questions and offered up fun trivia facts as we motored on.

Once we got to our destination we learned that our ticket also granted us discounts at some shops and restaurants around City Pier!!

Would recommend the Thames River Water Taxi for a nice date night cruise or even after a few drinks downtown! Can't wait to ride again!

Even with the short rain break we had so much fun. We learned lots of new things about the history of the area, took the water taxi - capt and first mate were great! - for the first time, enjoyed good food (twice), and had a really enjoyable day. We are already planning to do this with our summer visitors.

You can do one, two, or all three quests depending on how much time you have. I recommend all three because it really is fun. And there is good food to be found on both sides of the river.

We were on holiday from Scotland last year and enjoyed several trips on the water taxi. It was a fantastic way to go from Groton to New London. My 6 year old son loved it, so much better than taking the car. The staff were courteous and friendly and being able to get a glimpse of a submarine as we travelled over only the made the journey that much more exciting for my son. Would thoroughly recommend this especially for people with young children.

The water taxi that travels to Groton, Ft Trumbull and New London leaves from this lovely little park. The water taxi is an excellent way to travel to the Fort and to New London. Check the schedule before you go. The boat captain and first mate were terrific, answering all of our questions and sharing loads on information. The cost of the water taxi was very reasonable - $10. There is free public parking nearby so we left our card there for the day. This little park is also very close to Ft. Griswold, another great place to visit.

Wonderful way to get some history in your day! Traveling by boat to local landmarks was such a unique treat! Captain Mark and his shipmate Logan were very informative and hospitable. Both of our children (14y,10y) had a great time and learned a lot. Definitely will be doing this again!

WOW!!! If you haven't been on this fun and cool water taxi you are missing out. Captain Mark was knowledgeable about the area and told us a little history about him in the Navy and about the boat. He was amazing and his shipmate Logan was very helpful with making sure we all are safe. They offer water and soda, cheap and the money goes to a good charity. Back half of the boat is covered and the front half you can enjoy the sun. This taxi goes from downtown New London to Fort Griswold and then to Fort Trumbull. If you haven't discovered this amazing little water adventure, then what are you waiting for. The price of the taxi is affordable and they even offer seasonal passes.

Long before automobiles and highways, most people traveled by water and the Thames River is the constant the ties this historic region together. In southeastern Connecticut, Mystic is the big draw for visitors and while that village has a lot to offer, it's too bad that the more significant history of Groton-New London is too-often overlooked. The water taxi allows visitors (and locals) an easy and enjoyable way to get on the water, learn about the region's history (the state's only Revolutionary War battle was fought here, Eugene O'Neill was inspired here and the world's first nuclear-power submarine was built here, to cite a few examples), hop off and visit the sites or enjoy a meal and shopping, then hop back on for a single price. Each year the park and taxi experience improves - look for great additions in 2019. I've ridden the taxi numerous times and there's always something new to see or learn!

A worthwhile trip was made even better by Captain Steve and first mate Alex. They are a dynamic duo! If you are lucky enough to have them as your hosts, you may very well find yourself sharing a few memorable smiles with them as they share interesting facts, stories and fun moments with the passengers.

Although not part of the water taxi, at Groton we were lucky enough to meet up with local history expert David who provided us with a tour of the fort and a ton of interesting info about the Revolution. We really appreciated his depth of knowledge and passion for the history.

This was a great way to see and learn about the amazing history of the area and we will go again on our next trip from Canada!
