Easy access and awesome view

Visited here the first weekend of the corona virus scare, so the park was virtually deserted. I love the view of Long Island Sound. Incredibly easy access, but again, it might be tougher in season

Lighthouse Viewpoint
Feb 2020 • Solo
Had a great time visiting this viewpoint. Went about 20 minutes before sunset and was able to catch some amazing views. Stayed 30 minutes after sunset too for some great colors in the sky. Bundle up if you’re going in the winter months!

Winter visit

Very nice park located at the head New Haven Harbor. Lighthouse is kept in great shape. Great area to picnic. Small beach. Parking is pretty steep during the season, so make a day out of it.

A nice park to spend some time

It is worth the walk. We found some beach glass and checked out the lighthouse. There is a good view of the city as well.

Beautiful location fee high if you are only going to see the lighthouse

I visited in early May before the "season" began. Entry to this very nice park with great views was free. I thoroughly enjoyed my walk including seeing the Carousel. The park is easily covered within an hour unless you are staying to picnic or swim during the season. After memorial day the prices for entry for out of state licensed vehicles is $30 for the day. (The ride/walk from downtown New Haven Green is 5.7 miles.)

Worth the walk
Oct 2018 • Friends
We walked to this lighthouse park from downtown New Haven. There were a few roads that didn't have sidewalks so I'm not sure I would recommend doing this. However, because we walked, we didn't have to pay to enter the park or worry about parking spaces. There is a very nice beach area on the other side of the lighthouse where you can not only take some amazing pictures of the lighthouse but you can put your feet in the water.

Gorgeous backdrop

This was the first lighthouse I visited in Connecticut and I had to be creative in how I arrived there. To drive onto the grounds is a substantial fee for your vehicle which I was not willing to pay. I realized if I drove off outside of the restricted residential parking and walk back it would be free to walk on which is what I did. I will add that that is perfectly legitimate and in no way violated any ordinance. The walk was somewhat lengthy so be prepared once you are on the grounds there is more of a walk ahead of you but the grounds are well-kept and the walk was relatively flat and easy The walk was somewhat lengthy so be prepared once you are on the grounds there is more of a walk I had of you but the grounds are well-kept and the walk was relatively flat and easy. The lighthouse itself is awesome to look at I do not recall if you have access to inside of it or not I do know I did not attempt that I was merely interested in photographing the area.

Beautiful park, beautiful lighthouse

I love to come home and walk around. As a new englander, I love lighthouses, and this is a beautiful old one. There is a fee to come in to the park with a car, but you can walk in if you're local, or just park nearby.

This is my go-to spot for sunsets.

Pros and cons, from a local..
Nov 2017 • Family
I’ve been going to Lighthouse Point since I was a child. Things I haven’t seen mentioned in other reviews include:
1. NO one calls it “5 Mile Point Light”😁
2. The cost to get in with a car is steep - but the fee is not only for Out of State license plates, it is for anyone not from New Haven!
3. Beware! Parking on local streets and walking in is a risky gamble! Most of the streets are permit only. But... if there happens to be an event (wedding, butterfly festival, etc) you can tell the gate you are part of that event and you may not have to pay. Shhhh....
4. There is a concession stand.
5. There are hiking trails as you first enter the park. Not extensive, but I have seen deer more then once!
6. There USED to be a nature center with a touch tank and ranger always on site.It would be so nice to have that back. But then, the carousel was closed for many years due to extensive renovations.
7.Pets are welcome with the usual rules, but dogs can usually get away with swimming on the side without a lifeguard.
End result - There are pros and cons to most of the local beaches. For me, I wouldn’t pay to just SEE the place, but it’s worth it if you want to swim, fly a kite, have a picnic, walk on the rocks, etc.
