A great opportunity to support the museum
Feb 2021
The gallery was closed for the installation of new exhibits but we did have a chance to visit and pick up the gift items we bought online. Their virtual “members past and present” exhibit was a selection of art work representing the museum’s permanent collection. Their recent Photo Show 42 was also well done.

A great way to support the museum is to take advantage of the museum’s online gift shop. Lucky for us we were aware that Friday afternoons is the day you can pick up your orders in person. They had a wide variety of items for young and old.

Small venue but big on local culture
Sep 2020
The trip to Mystic coincided with the reopening of the museum. We were greeted as the first visitors since the closing.
As we entered, staff was putting up the final distancing arrows and markers.
It was a very pleasant visit done at a leisurely pace. Exhibits were interesting and many themes along regional/nautical lines.
The museum is in a nice setting along the river. Enjoyed a river walk post museum.

A gem!

A gem! Always nice to visit. A little sanctuary in downtown Mystic. It's bigger than you'd expect and the exhibits are always interesting and varied.

It had a nice selection of art pieces both from famous artists as well as local artists. Very spacious gallery with nice high ceilings.

A worthy visit
Sep 2019
The MMA is a quaint, small museum with a pleasant collection of art work. Don't expect the large assortment of a big city museum. Yet this is a museum any art lover will enjoy visiting. The staff is professional, friendly and helpful.

Cool little place
Feb 2020
This museum seems mostly to feature local artists, especially those who are members. That makes it sort of an exhibition space for a club or collective more than a museum. But -- there's art, admission is free, what's on display can be appreciated in an hour, and an easy walk from anywhere in the village.
The main room is lighted naturally from above. The museum building was purpose built in the 1930s for exhibiting art of the members.
So, this is not to be missed. Visit, join, donate! Places like this should be kept alive.

Outstranding museum
Jan 2020
We made the trip from Marblehead expressly to see the exhibit off J.M. Turner watercolors at this new art museum, a stunning structure. It was well worth the trip in every respect. An excellent exhibit of many watercolors by this talented prolific artist.

Small but lovely
Sep 2019
This charming art gallery is situated on the shores of Mystic River. The manicured gardens are beautiful, and the bright galleries are lovely. They let in enough natural light to highlight the works on display. You won't need long here as it's a pretty tiny museum, but they change the exhibits every few months, so it's worth going back. Plus, it's free!

Eclectic but nice
Sep 2019 • Family
It’s a nice building right on the river. You have to pay for parking but might as well use this parking to see the rest of the same area. Art is subjective so some of the collections were not my style but the museum itself is lovely for being free. Donations accepted.

Yngve Edward Soderberg exhibit enjoyed June 2019.
Jun 2019 • Friends
Spent a couple of hours in the museum with friends, one of whom is a sailor and painter. Thoroughly enjoyed the many Soderberg paintings on display. Loved the paintings featuring local streets and people. That there is no charge to explore the museum is incredible as is the parking validation.
