Very nicely kept considering the area.

We rent a pavilion every year for a social event. Have always been satisfied
Very clean and we'll policed. It is quite a hike to the restroom, especially if you are handicappef, which many of out group are.

All in all satisfied.

This is a lake built by the US Army Corps of Engineers on the Middlebury/Naugatuck town line. There is a large park with a lot of trails and many picnic sites. The central attraction is the lake with the swimming beach. I took my two young children and they loved it. If you are looking to take you kids for a swim, but don't want to travel to the coast, this is a nice option. You can't beat the $4.00 per carload entry fee. There is parking close to the beach. A designated section of the lake has been zoned off for swimming. There is no lifeguard present, and other than bathroom facilities and frequent ice cream trucks visiting, no services provided. The water was warmer than I was expecting. It was slightly cool but warmed up fast when you stayed in. The beach floor is shallow for a good deal out which was great with my young kids. The sand is coarser than the powdery white stuff on the LI Sound, but my kids didnt notice and enjoyed playing in it. I was there on a busy Saturday, although later in the day it was still easy to get a decent parking spot and find our own space on the beach. The ranger told me on the most popular days like July 4th weekend, come first thing in the morning or don't come at all because it gets too crowded- although I didnt experience anything like that. This place satisfied my kids desire to go to the beach but it is so much more convenient and inexpensive.

Let me start out by saying the swimming area is often closed for bacteria. the beach is nice and clean, when its open.
There are picnic tables and bathrooms near the beach and throughout the park. Parking is also convenient.
We enjoy family picnics and have rented the pavilion for parties, which was nice and priced reasonable.
There is a daily use per car admission, however not sure the price this year. The park also has hiking, fishing and bike riding and is dog friendly, with a leash.

I visit this park all the time with my dog. It has year-round parking, but you can only drive into the park in the summer. There are a lot of trails and BBQ areas, picnic tables and benches. You can swim there or fish. They also have dog poop stations which is thoughtful and convenient. Well maintained park.

I love this place for a great walk, winter or summer. During the winter months, the pavement is plowed and it's easy to negotiate without breaking one's neck on ice. It's always incredibly clean and well kept.

This is a very beautiful, well-kept day-use park. There is a nice lake with a beach area for swimming, lots of walking trails, lots of picnic areas. You can fish, swim, kayak, hike, picnic, bike ride, etc. Very nice place to spend the day and relax. They also have 4 picnic pavilions available for rent -- great place for a family gathering, graduation party, bridal shower, birthday party.

Hop Brook Lake and Army Corps of Engineers project is a great place for families to spend the day. There are numerous hiking/walking trails, barbecue spots, fishing areas in addition to a clean beach and swimming area. There are group areas in small fields where you can play ball or set up activities for kids. Bring your own food as there are no vendors to my knowledge (that may have changed). Parking by the beach area is limited so get there early. If you need shade that is available in grassy area and limited sections around the water. Having a family reunion or birthday party and your yard isn't big enough or you don't have a yard but would like to 'borrow' one? Hop Brook Lake is there for you ! If you need additional information on groups contact the office which is located south of the park entrance directly on route 63. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Did I mention there is a dam there and the view is something else. Have fun !

This park has many well marked trails, you can pick up a map at the entrance. I prefer to go off season when the lake is closed to swimming. Not as crowded. The lake frequently closes in the summer months due to bacteria levels so I don't swim there. Great location for cross country ski or snowshoeing. If your kids are into geocacheing, there are several throughout the park, from easy to difficult.

I have been coming to HBL for many years. I last visited 10 years ago when English became a second language. A nice relaxing spot became a loud obnoxious place. Even though this place is 2 miles from my house, I head north to Mt Tom instead. The lake is nice, there are nice trails as well.

This lake is ok but always seems to be closed due to contamination of the water. Not sure of the specific issues but we avoid Hot Brook until they fix the problem.
