We've frequented Theaterworks for years, returning each time with even greater expectations, never disappointed. The intimate, newly renovated theater, includes a warm gathering hall and small art gallery, a snack bar with hot and cold beverages and comfortable, amphitheater seating which offers excellent viewing from every vantage point. Recent additions allow special effects and realistic staging.

We attended "American Son" which takes place in a Florida police station where an interracial couple try to search for their missing son.
Another excellent 5 star performance. We have found Theaterworks to rival Broadway plays and performances, convenience and affordability. Check out the 2019-20 season, you will not be disappointed.

TheaterWorks has great plays and actors. The small stage is an intimate setting. An the sets are always professionally constructed. The theater has been newly renovated and should be an even better venue for the creative arts. And the staff are always helpful.

We saw "Actually" at Theaterworks (at the Wadsworth for now) on Sunday. The 90-minute play is exceptionally well acted by the two actors. It is set in a college setting and deals with difficult issues of what constitutes consent to sex, what constitutes consent when persons have too much to drink, and how race and gender come into the mix.

My wife and I attended the production, Almost Maine, on January 27, 2013. We both found the production entertaining, and the acting was superb. TheaterWorks is located in the basement of a building on Pearl Street. It is smaller than The Hartford Stage, but the seats are closer to the stage, and there is no bad seating. The staff is friendly and accommodating.

As a subscriber for many years, I commend TheatreWorks on its first rate, right-off-of-Broadway productions. However, be prepared for a hardcore sales pitch at the beginning of each & every production...all season long. Incredibly annoying!! In addition, one of the benefits (and curses) for the theater is its seating policy. The joy is that there are no assigned seats (unless you wish to pay an additional $10/ea.) Therefore, you can call an reserve a "spot" for any time during the production's run, but you must arrive as soon as the doors open in order to grab a seat that hasn't been reserved by others who have paid the additional "reserved" fee. I guess this is the price you pay for flexibility. Thank heavens that the productions have been so outstanding, otherwise my subscription would be history as I'm tired of sitting around for an hour to get a semi-decent seat.

I've seen some outstanding shows (Doubt, for example), and also some stinkers. The acting is always outstanding, but the writing is not always top notch.

Superb little theatre! We saw Raging Skillet, which was a play about a fiercely fabulous punk rock catering chef named Rossi; her life and how her relationship with her mother shaped her experiences. It was both very funny and poignant. The cast and writing were excellent and I would guess that other productions here are of similar merit. Great space and sound system. Bathrooms were a little distant from the auditorium, which might be a consideration for peeps challenged with mobility - though I didn't ask. There might be an elevator I'm not aware of.
There was also an art exhibit in the lobby. I don't live in Hartford but if I did I would probably try to see every production I could here!

Continue to be season ticket holders and the shows just keep getting better. Parking for subscribers is free in the back lot unless there is a civic center event. Then it is a reduced rate. Small, intimate theater where you are close no matter where your seat is located. As always, looking forward to the next show.

From the first phone call to reserve tickets until saying goodbye after the show, the "host" was gracious and helpful, almost as though I was visiting his home. I'd never been to TheaterWorks and was delighted! The play (Buyer and Cellar) was awesome and very professional, our seats were pretty good - but again our host suggested we move to better ones once the doors were closed. Seating is a little tight, but comfy. We learned that they have a deal with the restaurant across the street (20percent off) for after theatre....we parked right around the corner for free, had a lovely dinner at Salute. We've always gone to The Bushnell and Hartford Stage and we'll definitely include TheaterWorks in our future theater going. Affordable too!
