About
Located in the heart of Hartford, Connecticut, this building served as a home to all three branches of Connecticut state government from 1796 to 1878. Some of our state’s most important stories of freedom, democracy, and civic action – from the Amistad and Prudence Crandall trials to the Constitutional Convention of 1818 – connect to this National Historic Landmark. Today, Connecticut’s Old State House serves as a history museum, gathering spot and place of civic exploration for thousands of local, national and international visitors each year We look forward to welcoming you soon!

If you stop to see the State Capital then stop to see the Old State House. Interesting but not large. I would not go out of my way just to see this. It is a lovely building with history but a very average experience.

We went to see the Old State House and found an excellent museum in the basement. We learned about the Amistad trial being held in this building. We saw the different areas of the building where the offices were located. We then went to the museum and were surprised with all the history we found. On the outside of the building are statutes on poles with information including the spot where George Washington stood when he was at the State House.

This visit has allowed me to know a little more the history of Hartford, as well as its main attractions and exponents.

From the current Statehouse we walked through the adjacent park to the Old State House. It's a beautiful old building that houses a diverse and interesting museum collection.

The building is beautiful and historical but once you get inside the propaganda begins. Although, related women and African Americans is part of the history of Connecticut, it was overwhelming. It is interesting to note very little discussed on the history of the nations creation. If you want the complete history, avoid this museum. It’s sad that small group of “educators “ pick and choose based on their prejudices in what is shown in this museum.

Very interactive. Great Colonial history and the curiosities museum is a fun surprise. Unfortunately, the gift shop is no longer in operation.

Decided to stop in at the Old State House for a solo tour. You have a choice of a guided tour or self guided tour. I took the self guided which was perfect because I could take my time and read about the different things and rooms. If you like history, this is a good place to check out.

This is the former political center of Connecticut. Amid modern high-rises and busy traffic, the dominating presence of this stately architecture forms an interesting urban landscape. Unfortunately it was closed during our visit.
