1960s slighty mad kids.
Jul 2019
As a 15 year old slightly mad kid, I,along with a few of my mates dived off the piers into the plunge pool every Sunday summer afternoon, surfacing at the island and doing it again to rapturous applause from the Sunday afternoon pick nickers in the 60s. The Beatles era produced some crazy buggers. Eric Claptons biography mentions us when he saw us while fishing here. He was born about a mile away from this amazing place. I've been back and shown my kids and my grandsons, and they are quite convinced we were quite mad. What a period in our history, the 60s. Would like to visit and talk to the present lock keepers, could be quite a chat!

Update
Jan 2019 • Solo
The weir bridge which I advised was closed preventing access to Ripley is now open so it is now possible to walk from West Byfleet to Ripley or if you cycle Guildford is achievable

Extensive building work being carried out at present means you cannot walk continuously from Ripley to Pyrford and only from Pyrford toward the Anchor

A pretty lock on the Wey Navigation. Not to be confused with a canal.
Sep 2017 • Solo
Apart from the lock keeper and his immediate family, pretty much everyone who arrives here has walked, run, cycled, or employed some form of water borne transport. It's in the middle of nowhere, in rural
Surrey. If you want peace, tranquility, and the chance to stare at humanity at a pedestrian pace then this is your spot. Take a rucksack with sandwiches and something vaguely alcoholic, a really good book, an offering to the gods of good weather, and you should be set for the afternoon.

Walsham Lock and Weir at Dunsborough Park is a Great Painting Location!
Aug 2017 • Solo
Extremely picturesque site for plein air artists. It is a bit of a hike from the car park, about 10 minutes, but the view is lovely and fresh. As this was August families were enjoying picnics, and Ripley village - also very pretty and artistic material - is close by. I highly recommend this for a day out.

Part of Canal History
Jan 2017 • Family
The lock on the River Wey Navigation dates back to the Seventeenth Century and thus to the early part of English canal history. With the water roaring over the weir, and with a neat cottage and footbridge alongside the lock, it is a good place to pause on a walk along the towpath. Take some photos or simply absorb the atmosphere.
