This is an easy and accessible hiking area for all. The only downside is that those who do not have control of their dogs don't keep them on a lease. We had a frightening experience with an unleashed dog who scared my little guy by grabbing his pant leg. No owner appeared to take responsibility or apologize. Needless to say, it was a while before my son wanted to go hiking again and it is in our backyard. If an owner cannot control their dog, it shouldn't be off leash, if it is allowed.

This is a very special place to me. When I was growing up, I used to spend summers swimming at the beach. When I needed a place to think, reflect and soothe my soul, the trails provided that. It is a very calming place that shouldn't be taken for granted. Great memories are made here, and it's a place to go solo, with friends, a partner or family - and dogs especially on the trails.

Mohegan lake has been our family's favorite "short" hiking place. There are red-trail, and yellow-trail. Red-trail is around the lake, a little shorter. My son used to run along it every day during his high school year. Sure enough, there were a lot of his foot prints left in the trail. My daughter and I did the hour-long hiking weekly when we lived there. Along the way, you will meet all kinds of dogs, long-leg, short-leg, big, small, masculine, feminine, long-hair, no-hair, etc. Be aware, there are roots sticking out all over the places which my daughter got tripped often. In summer, it is a natural cool place with tree leaves covering the sky. In fall, beautiful foliage will make you forget to go home.

My wife live nearby and walk the trails almost every day. The combination of the ponds, woods, and rocky creek are New England picturesque. There are numerous trails. Lots of roots and rocks on the trails, so don't look at your cell phone while walking. The Town of Fairfield permits dog owners to let their dogs off-leash within this park. Most of the folks you run into on the trails have one or more friendly dogs. The bad part is a minority of these dog owners are dogs themselves. They do not pick up after their pets, which means you have to watch out for more than roots on the trails. Too bad. The town has given them and their dogs a beautiful place to walk, and they are so inconsiderate of others. It would be near perfect if every dog owner would just flick their dog's poop off the trail.

Nice and peaceful. Stay away we don't want you here. The residents of Fairfield like their privacy This is not a large lake and a small beach area. No motorized watercraft are allowed and it's hard to find. Go to the beaches on the sound they are much better..

Nice beach, very good concession stand, and if you're a senior citizen you get in for free even if you're not a Fairfield resident. The water is cold but not that bad - it's an inland lake, after all. There's an outdoor shower to reduce the amount of ssnd you end up taking home. They need a bench in the men's room so you can change more easily. I bring my entrenching tool to dig my umbrella in deep enough because the beach can get a good cross breeze.

No dogs on the beach at least until Oct. 1st.

Two choice to hike, one along flat surface around lake, or one that consists of a little climbing up steep hills and rocky paths. Both hikes easy to moderate.

If you are looking for a place to walk your dog and allow it to run free while others are walking to be in nature, then I recommend Lake Mohegan in Fairfield, CT.
It’s really a dog park.

Hiking and walking around the lake are free and great fun all year round. But in order to swim in the guarded area or use the sprinkler park, one must either be a resident with a pass or purchase a pass. There are areas where people go into the water and allow their dogs to swim but those areas are not necessarily legal. There have been issues with dogs and despite living within a quarter mile of the lake i NEVER let my dogs go there. I leave them at home and enjoy the hikes without worrying about their safety.

Great spot for hike and to feel like you've really stepped outside of Fairfield. Dogs love it too! The lake has a "beach" area and playground for the kids. Food at small concession stand but better to picnic.
