We arrived just a few minutes too late to take the riverboat ride (next time for sure). The train ride was alot of fun. The staff was very friendly and eager to tell us all about the trains. One of the engineers allowed me up to see the controls up close and answer my questions. The views of the marshes... More

This was such a fun day - we had never been on a steam train. Lunch was very good, the tables had fresh flowers and it set you back in time. The steamboat ride was so relaxing going down the Connecticut river - we had a beautiful day for both. Would recommend - we are thinking of doing again in... More

This was a nice relaxing ride back in time on the train powered by the steam locomotive. The area is beautiful and the river boat cruise was also quite relaxing. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable, and the town of Essex is gorgeous. If in the area. This is highly recommended.

Share some time on the cool old steam locomotive train -board in Essex then off to view several lovely CT towns, ending in Deep River where we boarded the boat, the attractive Becky Thatcher. The timing is very good-no waiting around and the excitement is ramped up a little by the big puffs of steam from the train then the... More

Both steam train and riverboat had information about scenery and history of the vicinity. Seats on both were comfortable for the amount of time of the tours. Many different combinations of tours are offered. We took the standard train and boat but may come back for the dinner train soon. Ticket prices are reasonable with many discounts available. Would be... More

I highly recommend the train ride, it is so scenic and relaxing. They offer different trips including a dinner train and a combo train and river trip. All are great especially if you like old steam trains and the Connecticut river as I do. This is one of those destination adventures that's worth it even if you have to go... More

I took my family to Essex's steam trains, 'North Pole Express' on Dec. 8th for the 7:35pm departure. We spent the extra money for the better seats and we were in the first car, car 'A'. Our train car host/guide 'Trina Elfarina', was amazing! She sang, danced, played several Christmas games with the kids (and adults), and she made the... More

Dropped by this location on our way to Essex. If you like trains this is definitely worth a visit. They offer dinner "rides" .

We have been on the Essex Train and Riverboat twice when visiting as adults, but this time we enjoyed it with our 8 year old Grandchild. We highly recommend the combination Train and Riverboat trip. The staff is great and so much fun. Our grandson loved it. Don't miss this when in the area---you will not be disappointed.

We took our grandchildren on the Essex Steam Train and River Boat in June. I think the tour is well done, but I think our kids were a bit young for the excursion. They are almost 7 and 5 and seemed to get tired during the trip. We had taken there aunt on her 10th Birthday and she loved it,... More
