In Indonesia its called Tanjung Bira. Located about 200km south of Makassar City via a winding and narrow road. If you are driving for the 1st time in Sulawasi , Please be very very careful. Great beaches but rocky at many areas, lots of chalets, budget hotels and 3 stars resort. The place need a major clean up , mostly negleted during Covid. To enter the " Beach " area you need to pay idr22k ( idr44k for foreigner) its valid for 2 days. The new " foodcourt " looks incomplete and empty, the newly built Mosque built on the sea front is nice but lack maintenance

Bira cape is definetly wirth going to, but dont stay at Pasir putih panjang cause its overcrowded and ugly.
They are also building a big ugly cement structure in the middle if the beach- will be even worse once its finished.
Go to Bara beach and stay at some of the wonderful places up on the cliffs.
Its quiet and serene there with incredible views and world class restaurants.
You will not regret.

Magnificent cape with white soft powdery sand, water warm and nice for swimming . Location about 200 km from makasar so took about 5h drive . Now here the downside all day long comes noise from banana boat , and other watersport engine . So if you stay on beachfront bungalow you may find it rather annoying . Many locals visitor and they make camp everywhere and leave the trash after weekend camp .it was very beautiful cape I ever seen yet still need a lot of improvement in terms of facilities and service esp for foreign visitors.

I visited Tanjung Bira two times, the first was in early October 2013 and the second was in the middle of December 2013. Overall, the beach is one of beautiful ones I have ever visited. The sands are pretty much look like powders and the water was very clear as well. There are a lot of guesthouses and resorts around the beach, and the prices are vary, start from a very cheap one until the pricy one.
Based on my visits, October is a good time to visit Bira. The wind was okay, the weather was shiny, and the beach was very clean. The condition of the wind made it very nice to visit the surrounding islands (e.g.: Liukang, Kambing, or Selayar)
In December, the wind was kinda strong, and it was also rainy, and the beach was not as clear as in October because the strong wind made a lot of things from the ocean landed and stumbled on the beach. It was not that nice. Besides, I heard a lot of hotels and guesthouses will close their service from December to March because the condition of the wind. The strong wind during this period will also make our travel to another surrounding islands rather unsafe, local leaders will also not recommend people to cross in some cases.

Tanjung Bira is located 5 hours away by car from Makasar.
The beach is clean, sand so white and soft and during midday it could be very hot. The sky around is clear and blue, the water is clear. Better time to visit is on the summer during weekdays because there wouldn't be so many people there and you'd feel like you own the beach for yourself.
To get here, you could ride "travel" and pay around Rp 70k for locals, usually the driver would offer the price at Rp80k but me and my friends made a bargain.
"Travel" is, private owned car modified to take locals and tourists to several destinations from Makasar. You could find this travel (usually an isuzu panther, toyota innova) in Malangkeri bus station. The travel would only leave if the car is full with passengers already so i suggest you to leave early morning from Makasar. The travel is already available since 7am until afternoon around 3 pm. The driver usually take short brake once during the travel.
Tanjung Bira is located in Bulukumba region, there are other tourist attractions around Bulukumba area. I recommend to stay there more than 2 days. From Bira beach you could cross to another island nearby which usually cost Rp300k upwards. So better prepare travel partners, better yet ask people you meet there to plan your trip together. On that island you could do free diving and snorkeling.
There are many guesthouse in Bira area. The problem here to people who's not used to traveling to remote area, is, the difficulties to find food, water, and transportation. Restaurants available there are mostly managed by the guesthouses and the price is quite expensive for not so tasty food. If you want to get out from Bira region and explore Bulukumba, better do it in the morning. There is local transportation called pete-pete but very rare! So plan ahead.
Typical locals there aren't as friendly as locals in Bali, and Yogyakarta. Perhaps they're not used to tourist yet i'm not sure. But this doesn't mean that they're not helpful.

...has a serious garbage problem. (Just walk along the beach with all the plastic cups, glass fragments and other waste) And as long as not everybody realises, that trash belongs into the bin, trashcan or garbage container and NOT the streets, beach or sea, pantai bira will suffer and I doubt it will be as beautiful as all the pictures want to make you believe in just a couple of years, when no one can take a picture of the romantic pier without the pile of waste next to it!
Think and act now guests and people of pantai bira.

Went there early September 2013. The Bira beach itself is so so (some small shops selling food, souvernir, renting boats etc) but there are some other beaches nearby that are really beautiful, very white and soft sand, kind of secluded, and no tourists, such as Ara beach, and the beach in Panrang Luhu where they make the Phinisi.
I did snorkel, not diving, and went to Liukang island. The underwater scenery in my opinion was good, but not as good as it was in Karimun Jawa island. I saw pictures of people diving in Bira, and it was really beautiful, so maybe it was just me being unlucky.
Beside snorkling and diving, you can see how the Phinisi is made in Tana Beru or Panrang Luhu. I went to Panrang Luhu coz it was closer from Bira. Very big ship, hand made! You can also go to "Kawasan Adat Ammatoa" in Kajang where you can see the culture and their unique ancient lifestyle. Unfortunately I didn't have enough time to go there. From Bira you need to drive +/- 1-1.5 hour to get there by car/motorcycle.
We met a foreign tourist, he told us to go to Ara to see the beach and the cave. He said that Nat Geo did a filming in the cave a while ago. Unfortunately we couldn't find the cave, coz there's no clear signage, and we ran out of time, it was in the afternoon already, so we just went to the Ara beach.
If you travel from Makassar to Bira, and want to explore Bira and do all the activity I mentioned above, at least you need to spare 4 days 3 night. From Makassar to Bira took around 5 hour. So if you arrived around 10 am in Makassar, you'll be in Bira almost dark, nothing to do beside get a good rest.

I can't agree with the one who said, tanjung bira is not good. Perharps you are not trying to cross the ocean, and go to another island. I snorkel there and wow one of the best snorkel I had, the coral reefs were beautiful, haven't been touched by people who destroy the reefs. Found many beautiful fishes, clown fish, and another. Swimming there around 1 hour, and after that lay down in the next island, white sand, local were very nice they were give us a space to shower, and gave us some unique cakes they made. Damn! You only can find white sand in the south of Indonesia. When I got back from Bira, we had the storm. It's quite and adventure :D

When you googling 'Tanjung Bira', you might find lots of interesting things to do, like snorkeling, and maybe diving. Thats what i found!
But the reality is, its not that good.
Beside the sky which is stunning, the beach was average and more to be the bored one. And even i was indonesian, the local here not as good as local in Lombok / Bali..!
I suggest whoever want to come here, just dont! Skip this one, and go to selayar or takabonera!
