Well-Used Community Resource
Apr 2019 • Solo
The main library is large and well-used. There is generally a line at the door at 10 a.m. when the library opens with residents waiting to use one of the many, many public computers on the second floor. The children's room is quite large and well organized for children from tots to teens, and there is a separate young adult room that oddly and inconveniently is closed to the public until mid-afternoon. The history section, on the second floor, provides excellent resource material, when it is open, which isn't always the case. The librarians and other staff are more or less friendly and helpful, sometimes more less than more, and accessibility is possible for wheelchairs, especially when the elevators are working. When they aren't, which seems to happen with some frequency, you're out of luck if you can't climb the many, many marble stairs to the second and third floors. The custodial staff does a good job and the library is clean. The collection, while mostly older, is fairly comprehensive and there seems to be a moderate budget for buying new materials. Not a big budget, but at least a budget. Parking is not easy. There are meters on both sides of Broad Street that allow you eight quarters for two hours. And the meter reader absolutely is there with a ticket if you exceed your two hours or haven't run out to stuff in more quarters. There used to be a lot but the staff closed it off for staff-only parking, feeling entitled to have a place to park when at work. There is also a very large space for regular book sales at street level around the corner from the main entrance that is maintained by volunteers. Prices are inexpensive and categories of books for sale are vast.

Wondrous!

The downtown, main library and all the branches are excellently staffed with friendly, helpful librarians and assistants. And the shelves are well stocked. If you can't find it, they'll get it for you for sure. My husband and I use the Black Rock branch all the time.

Nice Library

We visited the library so two family members could get library cards. Personnel were friendly and patient while filling out applications and talked about the services the library offers.

One of Bridgeport's Forgotten Gems
Feb 2017 • Friends
As libraries go, Bridgeport is one of the oldest in the state. Large & full of worn marble stair cases and even more, full of old Connecticut History. It a great place to research and the librarians are always helpful and know their Books. There is micro fiche for historical info and they have an awesome photograph horde, seldom used by patrons. There are classes and activities for kids, so take advantage of the fabulous resource!

The B-port library is a jewel in the city and offers access to computers as well as regular books! They also offer a variety of special programs.

Great, Good and Bad Days at the Bpt Library!
Jul 2016 • Friends
Timing is the key word for the Bridgeport Public Library! There are days when certain employees like Ron and younger staff members will go out their way to assist you on the second floor. However, some days individuals employed there for to many years routinely displayed unbecoming characteristics and professionalism with library card holders, tax payers and patrons.

Bridgeport Public Library and HISTORY CENTER MAIN BUILDING
Jun 2016 • Solo
We are in the process of purchasing a home in the Black Rock area that is very old. In researching the area I learned that the 3rd floor of the Main Library campus houses an archival Bridgeport and/or Greater Bridgeport Historical section. I first went to the 2nd floor. The assistance was fabulous. The computers available to the public are many and, as this building is next to a college, is well used. I was very impressed with the lovely service provided in finding information and just want let people know! The library is open daily. The historical archive section is open Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Check for details on the website or call!
