We loved this little drive. SO many cool things to see along the route. We enjoyed the variety. So glad we chose to follow this route.

Be Careful of Speeding Tickets
Sep 2020
Beautiful, windy, scenic road with lots of historical homes and landscapes. We've been driving on 146 for years and have noticed a great increase in the numbers bikers, runners, dog walkers, and hikers on the very narrow road so be careful.

Also, there has been increased speed limit enforcement (the limit is 25mph) and ticketing for loud vehicles so not a great place to put your bike or car through its paces anymore.

Wonderful drive
Feb 2020
This winding road is a must. and the second must is to drive slowly. It is narrow and dangerous, but full of spots worth taking your time to view. Old historic homes and water views give you a glimpses of old Connecticut shoreline.

Scenic Route
Jan 2020
I live in the area and often take what locals call "the scenic route" to get to part of a neighboring town. The views and water views change withe the seasons and the tides.

A picyuresque drive to the. Thimble Islands,
Aug 2019
If one has never seen the Thimble Islands this drive is a must. Those tiny little islands, many just about large enough to accomadate one house are objects out of a story book

Beautiful but be Cautious
Aug 2019 • Couples
We drive this route regularly as a relaxing way to navigate a busy shoreline corridor. It is a very narrow two lane road with little to no shoulder. Bicycles are a major hazard. Many people cycle this road there is little room for two cars and bicycles so you must be vigilant. When it is high tide many low areas along the route will flood. During major storms it can easily be impassable. There are a few tight turns under bridges that are a problem with two vehicles attempting at the same time. On a nice day you will see many types of birds. There is a farm market on the route. Be careful of the people crabbing and fishing along some areas of the route. If you keep your speed down and watch for others it is a very peaceful ride.

Nice meandering local road if you want to avoid interstate
Aug 2018 • Family
This is a local road that goes through pretty little towns. It follows close to the coast but you won't see the ocean from it. This is not a kind of road that goes through the woods nor over the bodies of water. It is a pretty drive through quiet neighborhoods of the local towns. Do it if you want to escape the interstate traffic for a bit. Total disctance is 16 miles from Guilford to Branford.

Much nicer than the interstate, and about the same time
Apr 2019 • Friends
We stayed in Branford and visited family in Guilford. Most of the time we took the interstate, until one day discovered Route 146. There is a scenic marsh, a nice dairy, trees, and a slower speed limit. Although it didn't take much longer, if any, since it was a little shorter total distance. Enjoy the views!
