Perfect place to enjoy the outdoors
May 2021
We recently walked this trail with family who live in the area. We loved the scenery!
The trail meandered across marshes, prairie lands, rolling hills, beside ponds and across creeks.
We saw fire ant hills, Canadian geese, goslings, mallard ducks, ducklings, a cottontail rabbit, and lots of prairie dogs and their babies.
The wildlife and all the flora and fauna were most enjoyable. We saw all types of plants including morning glories, wild roses, sage bushes, ferns, yucca and cacti. We saw a few other hikers, a couple of dogs, and several cyclists. This is a nice trail with distant views of the Rockies. It certainly gets you up close and personal with Mother Nature!

Great part of the Denver-area cycling experience.

Love this trail, take it east or west. West, you'll go to Lake Standley, east-ish (kind of goes north too) you'll see a lot of Thorton. Say hi to Harley the fish and see the painted tunnels.

Love it

We walk this trail regularly. We always let our dogs of the leash to chase the prairie dogs when no one was around but our new puppy caught one. Very sad for me. So that won't happen again. I am glad that new trees are growing. I think they need to buy more tiny trees and put them in. I will volunteer to lead a group.

Great Trail; Could Be Better
Mar 2020
This is a great community trail for everything from strolling, to walking the dog, to riding bikes. The trail used to be partially dirt/gravel, and they sidewalked the whole thing. This is nice for road bikes, and other transportation that wouldn't do well in dirt, but it takes away from the soft surface that was great for runners' joints. The improvement plan included a three foot shoulder on the side, along the full length of the trail, for runners/walkers. This three foot wide shoulder along the whole trail didn't really come to fruition. There are some spots where it's three feet wide, level, and useable, but other areas where it's not so great. Overall, it's a great path. As someone who lives close by and uses it often, I'm bummed that they didn't 100% keep to the improvement plan/promise and 100% include the three foot shoulder.

Great Trail With Lots to See
Oct 2019
My friend and I were staying at the Westin Westminster and decided to get some exercise walking. This was such a nice trail. We saw hundreds of prairie dogs and one coyote The trail is near homes and appears to be a very safe location. There was a sign that said be aware of rattle snakes especially ones that may be on the trail sunning. However we did not see any. We started at the Westin and walked three and half miles before turning back. I wish we would have had time to explore more of it.Many other people were enjoying the trail and we always felt safe

Scenic, yet it's also a great transportation corridor

Birds, creek, trees, bridges, parks, prairie dogs - a great trail we've been using for ten years. It opened my wife's cycling vistas wide. Gets you from Thornton to real close to Arvada (Standley Lake)

Excellent trail that goes on for miles!
Jul 2019 • Family
This trail runs right behind our house and goes from Standley Lake on the west side to I-25 and 136th on the east side. It winds along beside a creek most of the way. Not too many hills, just good comfortable paved enjoyment.

Wide Open Spaces With Majestic Views Of The Mountains
Jun 2019 • Solo
An awesome 12-mile long trail through northern Westminster, CO. The trail has access from many neighborhoods, and short segments of the trail can be easily walked as the trail is mostly flat. There are ponds and also parks with soccer fields and picnic tables along the trail. The trail can get busy with hikers, runners, and bikers; however, the trail is wide enough to accommodate everyone. Segments of the trail are paved, and the gravel segments of the trail are well maintained. The views of the mountains are expansive as there are not many trees along most of the trail. Gophers are a common sight. On rare occasions, you might spot a coyote or a small snake. Most of the ponds have fish and even some turtles. Lots of families walk and bike the trail on weekends to enjoy this extensive nature trail in a beautiful city.
