About
The Museum of Friends is the first Counter Culture Museum in the United States. It is comprised of art given to each of the co-founders as gifts from fellow-artists. The first floor is accessible on Main Street and 6th and features changing exhibitions, a museum gift shop full of locally made goods "Made in Walsenburg" and workshop areas. The 2nd floor contains over 600 works of art created by contemporary artists with a few exceptions. Also on the 2nd floor is the Hawaiian Collection, Artist in Residency quarters, offices, and a resource library. The featured show on the ground level is "El Dia de los Muertos" a group exhibition that honors our ancestors. It will remain on view until December 30th. Currently, the museum is opened from noon until 4 pm, or "winter hours." . School groups are welcome as are group tours.

A Wonderful Art Experience
Oct 2021
A Wonderful Art Experience. the Collection of art is from "real" people and truly diverse and wide ranging. Interesting and surprising on the main floor gallery, the second floor contains the most amazing and wide ranging collection of contemporary art that you could find anywhere. The Owner Brent shared his incredible story of this Collection. And our docent, Larry, was full of stories about certain pieces. This is truly a unique and a must stop through Colorado!

A unique art viewing opportunity
Sep 2021
I highly recommend a visit to MoF. My husband and I always make it a point to visit MoF whenever we drive I-25 South because the temporary exhibits are exceptional and the permanent collection of contemporary art on 2nd floor will "wow" you every time with its wide-ranging works from accomplished artists. Be sure to ask for a tour, Maria and Brendt have great stories to tell about the artists and their works.

A Thrilling Discovery
Aug 2021 • Couples
The Museum of Friends in Walsenburg Colotado is a very friendly place to visit and besides the wide ranging changing shows which are always interesting and surprising on the main floor gallery, the second floor contains the most amazing and wide ranging collection of contemporary art that you could find anywhere. Hundreds of paintings, drawings and sculptures. A thrilling discovery.

What a great experience!
The staff were all very accessible and passionate about art!
They were all very welcoming and happy to give more information and history on any exhibit that I asked about.
They also have a nice gift shop with such a variety of items and art!

Plan to visit at least 2 hrs. There is so much to see and learn about. The guides are so knowledgeable. You will learn a lot from them. The photo exhibit on slavery was so powerful! Especially seeing the real shackles in the picture with photos behind them was heart wrenching. And the various artists interpretation of "conflict" was so inspiring. You could feel their inner feelings through their paintings. This is a MUST SEE gallery to visit in Walsenberg!

Insanely Cool Museum

Going to this museum was awesome it was so unique and I’ve never seen an art collection like it. It had very positive vibes and there were hundreds of unique art pieces by hundreds of different artists. My family and I checked this place out as a road trip pit stop and we all enjoyed it. I really recommend stopping by here if you’re ever passing through Walsenburg.

Friendly and interesting

Extremely friendly and lots of interesting, eclectic art! We stopped by on a road trip and enjoyed lunch nearby and then stopped to see their collection. Lots of artists from CO to NYC and the owners knew the history behind every piece.

Immersive experience!!
Jun 2021
New favorite in Walsenburg! More immersive art experience in the vein of Cartopia or Meow Wolf than just typical museum. Hundreds of pieces in room after room upstairs in the permanent collection-- all with an interesting story held by owners Bredt & Maria. Stayed twice as long as planned, focusing on certain works that popped out, but feel like I could go back every time I'm in town and see something new. Definitely worth stopping in.

A must see and experience in Walsenburg, Colorado!!!
Apr 2021
Wow!!! What an amazing art museum. Such a varied collection of art from artists from around the globe and local. Make sure to check out the 2nd floor, mind-boggling. Jam packed! The owners are terrific. Incredible energy and knowledge. I think they can tell you about every single piece; the story behind the art and the artist, etc. They have such a connection with the artists that are featured as well as embody the passion of what the artist is conveying. And they don't stop there. They love involving the community young and old. Working with folks that can benefit from the healing powers of art. The Museum is working on displaying art on Main Street including a beautiful mural across the street in Miner's Plaza and even the sweet colorful flower boxes that the local school children helped to paint. Very cool. You need to check out this art museum!!

Always interesting exhibits. Helpful, friendly and worth the time. Most recent involved COVID 19 art displays. Occasionally run into piano or music.
