We drove the Arapaho National Wildlife Refuge Auto Tour Road, a 6 mile dirt loop road. We saw several Prairie Dogs and one good sized Beaver. Later on we saw a Moose in the road in Arapaho National Forest.

We love Wildlife refuges. They are some of the best birding habitats around. This one was no exception. We spotted the first Upland Sandpipers we had seen in years! Lots of smaller wading birds on the ponds. Probably the largest Black-crowned Night-heron I ever saw....More

This is really off the beaten path, but really nice. I had fun exploring the roads in the NWR. Seen some wildlife. Look up there hours before you go. I checked out this place and State Forest State Park in the same day.

Like any National Wildlife Refuge I have been to, sure! You can take your dog. You probably shouldn’t let your dog run loose, nor harass the wildlife, but dogs need some outdoor time too.
