    Lovely day out
We had a lovely visit, well laid out and presented. Lots of activities to keep children busy. Mosaics we’re incredible and knowledgeable staff keen to help. We also had a nice tea and scone in the cafe. 4 because of access, price and my own interest levels.

Impressive site which brings the past colourfully and beautifully to 'life'
Beautifully preserved - stunning mosaics and equally impressive structure preserving them. Lovely part of the country and well worth a visit. Friendly and helpful staff...so beautiful and very atmospheric..amazing mosaics and huge snails! Lovely picnic area. Dogs understandably not permitted in site for obvious reasons.... **Narrow roads approaching and limited parking**

    Worth a visit
Situated down a small lane the villa is situated on the base of a hill. The renovation and information is great. Personal headphones for more detail on the exhibition. Very quiet at present but most of it open. Lovely views and interesting artefacts.

Fabulous even on a dreary winter's day
A lot more to see than some Roman sites. I loved the covered area over the dining hall etc. The site was muddy in places but not as bad as feared for the time of year . Good explanation boards, but you do benefit from buying a guidebook that is inexpensive. Would love to see a recreation of a room as it would have been back then. Nice cafe but only a few tables. Nice shop and friendly staff

    Very impressive Roman Villa
We were totally WOWed by Chedworth Roman Villa. What an amazing story this Roman site has. There is so much to see including well preserved mosaics; and the setting over-looking a valley is stunning particularly at opening time. We are National Trust members and used the FREE audio-guide which was excellent and SO informative. The café is very small but the coffee is delicious made with the beautifully soft, local mineral water.

    A History Lesson.
Chedworth Roman Villa is a very interesting location to visit and is believed to be date from around the 3rd century. The wealthy owners had an opulent life style which is very much evident from the mosaic floors and bath houses that are still in place today. Our fascinating visit lasted about an hour and a half for which you can have a free audio guide to listen to at your own pace. There is a small cafe, Museum and also a National Trust shop that we visited. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

    AMAZING!
We ended up here by chance, after discovering the Villa at Great Witcombe was closed, so it was a very happy accident indeed! Lovely visitor centre & cafe with helpful friendly staff. The site is fascinating, especially the mosaics & bath houses, certainly the best I have seen outside Italy. The audio tour was informative & fun & we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

    Excellent. Highly recommended.
The roman villa exceeded our expectations. Very friendly and informative member of staff talked to us about the mosaics in the main building. We spent 4 hours wandering around. The audio guide was interesting and worth getting (it's free). There were lots of activities for children to do. It was mindblowing learning how the remains were rediscovered in the Victorian era. A highly recommended NT experience.

Must be fantastic on a summer's day Very friendly and knowledgeable staff and volunteers. Well worth a visit
We chose a really rainy day to visit but the staff and volunteers were so enthusiastic and knowledgeable that we really enjoyed our visit. There is a very modern reception area and the staff greeted us with big smiles and lots of information. that leads out onto the site. Two wet volunteers under golf unbrellas gave us a potterd history of the site and a route to follow that took account of the fact I am in a wheelchair and the rain. We spent along time in the West Range which is roofed and has a raised floor above some fantastic mosaics which are very well displayed either under grids, glass or in roped off rooms. The explanations were clear and would interest children as well as adults with lots of hands on activities. The volunteers were most knowledgeable and were able to cover all the questions we asked. The rest of the villa area was interesting but the victorian walls around the north range were just at a height to prevent me being able to view what was in the rooms. There is also a small one room 'museum' in the victorian house. There is lots of space for stretching legs on a dry summer day. We had a light lunch in the reception area where the cafe has a limited menu. There is level access from the car park to the Reception area but it is quite steep ramp and there is a tight accessible toilet in the reception building. The car park is very smal and some of the roads to the Villa complex are very narrow. The signage isn't brilliant but keep your eyes peeled so you don't miss the final one.

    A hidden surprise
We are staying in the Cotswold folding the romantic road drive over the past few days. We literally fell on the Roman villa by the national trust. A lovely part of the world. Very much worth a visit. The volunteers are very knowledgeable and it’s amazing how much has survived so many years. They have lovely picnic tables if you were to bring your own food. Plenty of extra parking. Do yourself a favor and come see how the Roman’s were so far ahead of there times.

The drive in is a treat even the narrow lane approaching the villa.
Normally this would have cost my wife and I a total of £21 and whilst I am all for these types of places and totally respect the upkeep and staff costs, i would not have paid £21 for all of my family on what I saw today.
It is surrounded by beautiful countryside however and the staff were, as ever, very helpful and friendly and there are a few places of moderate interest, the museum was very disappointing as well as tiny internally.
The grounds are immaculate and relatively straight forward to negotiate however our visit totalled 22 minutes and every other NT property we have visited has been similar in price but we have stayed for over 2 hours.
It is a nice place and quite interesting....i guess I was expecting a little too much.

Thank you for your review shanes236. We’re pleased you found the staff very helpful and friendly during your visit, and found the villa to be a nice place and quite interesting. We are sorry to read there are some aspects which didn’t meet your expectations on this occasion. When we reopened following lockdown there were a few changes we had to make in order to be able to offer a safe environment for our visitors. The admission price at the time was reflective of the changes. All money coming to the villa from the admission price, purchases made in the café and shop, or donations go towards the upkeep and conservation of the site so it is preserved for the future. The villa is a Scheduled Ancient Monument with the original museum build in the late 1800s, so it is a small building and houses many of the finds from the original excavations of the villa.

As we are NT members entry was free but I don't think I would pay an adult entry fee of £12.50 plus a further £1 for an audio guide.

There isn't a great deal to see, mainly a few walls and remains of the baths and heating systems, along with some partial mosaic floors. There is also a very small museum exhibiting some of the finds at the site, but they are not very impressive.

Steven, the on site guide when we visited, was actually the highlight as he was so knowledgeable and helped to bring the site more to life.

Personally, I wouldn't visit again. I live in Chichester and the Roman site and mosaics there are more complete and interesting.

Visited in September 2019. I have already seen a few ancient roman sites, and all of them is different in size, archaeological finds, history, museum. This is a National Trust place, but hidden enough to get there only in long, narrow single tracks' difficult labyrinth. The parking is not too big, enough for a few cars, but not prepared for herds of tourists. It is free flow but there were also guided tours. The whole village is not too big, but it has a little museum, which I found very interesting, and also in the main bath building we can find detailed information about the village's history, as well as living history show. That time I've seen a little show about the ancient healing therapies, herbs, medicines and medical devices. In the whole building we can walk on hanging corridors to see the continuous archaeological work underneath and the saved mosaics. The whole site is very informative, though because it is not too big, we hardly can spend there more than 2 hours. There are toilets and gift shop at the visitor centre.
P.s. Because it is in the middle of nowhere, neither to get out from there is easier than get in:D cobweb of single tracks...

Thank you for your review Ewyena. The roads leading to the villa are narrow country lanes, and several car parks are available for visitor to use. We always recommend visitors check our website before visiting for the most up-to-date information about what is on offer throughout the year as this does change. Information about parking and facilities available can also be found there. We’re pleased you found your visit interesting, and we hope to welcome you back to Chedworth Roman Villa again.

It’s very good the National Trust man who tells you all about it just inside the site was excellent as were the staff.
It’s interesting and worth a visit to.
The cafe was disappointing because the vegetable pasty( cauliflower and chick peas )
when the pastry was inedible absolutely rock solid, and it wasn’t cheap.

Not a huge National Trust property, but so glad that we visited. The drive to it, even on a crisp February morning, is stunning.
We were given the warmest of welcomes and told how to get the best out of our visit. The next tour was just half an hours wait and highly recommended so we decided to have a coffee and wait. I’m so glad we did. Jeanette, our guide, brought the place to life. Her knowledge encompassed not just everything we needed to know about the Villa but also the local area...and much more. There were just six of us on the tour, but on a cold morning she kept us entertained and showed a real passion for her subject.
The mosaics at Chedworth are a real high spot and well worth seeing.
Enjoy......we certainly did!

Access is along narrow lanes and ending at the site where car parking is very limited. The excavated remains are primarily floor fragments but a clever arrangement protects them while you view. Signage provides an artists view of each room you pass though.

The small museum contains some good items including a substantial key and padlock. Just imagine what the Roman owner was keeping beyond the door.

Thank you for your lovely review Keith L. The roads leading to the villa are narrow, and we have several parking areas for visitors to use when they arrive. Information about parking here can be found on our website. We’re pleased you enjoyed viewing the mosaics in the West Range, and we also wonder what the owner was keeping behind lock and key! We hope you welcome you back to Chedworth Roman Villa soon.

This was our first visit here and we thoroughly enjoyed the day. Our midweek visit in April found the site not too busy and after a coffee in the cafe we set off to explore.
There are a number of signs and interpretation boards around the site to help visitors understand the villa and it's history. As we walked around we met the friendly guide who was able to point out some of the other things of interest, and also give a detailed explanation of the Roman bathing experience which was both informative and entertaining.
After a good look around we had a cup of tea and a look around the shop which has a good range of items and books relating to the Roman occupation of Britain.
Before we left we took a walk up the footpath by the cafe to the Chedworth Nature Reserve owned by the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust. The site follows a length of former railway line and we enjoyed the spring flowers, birdsong, and a glimps of a deer.
All in all a great day out.

We found this place very interesting, discovered in the 18th century, I would say the Romans were ahead of their time the engineering and the mosaics tell it all. The museum is also good to check out. Strict Covid rules are in place, plenty of parking space. I recommend it for anyone who would like to look back in history.

As a lover of all things Roman, this was right up my street. The villa is well curated and the information displays help bring to life what it would have been like in all its glory. Some of the mosaics are in remarkably good condition given the centuries that the villa lay in ruins. There's also the tantalising prospect of an 18m long mosaic, discovered only a few years ago but re-covered for protection and therefore invisible at the moment, being on display in future. The museum is small but very interesting with a diverse range of finds from the site of the villa. There is a 45-min circular walk from the villa but, while it has a lovely view of the village of Chedworth halfway round, the paths aren't that well maintained, and I can't help think that more could be done with the wider grounds

Well preserved wonderful villa. It is part of the National Trust so if you are visiting The UK for a time you might look into a membership of the National Trust.

This location was discovered in 1864 by a gamekeeper. Extensive walls, bath houses and mosaics are now available for visitors. It is off the beaten path but has the necessities for a nice break along with the tour of the facilities itself. There are activities for children and a very nice gift shop and small cafe.
