I am an experienced rider who had spent years riding at various types of ranches in Colorado. I have been to several dudes ranches (you ride hours for days) and day riding ranches like this one. I have to say it’s a pretty unique place. I had a large group with me this time and when our youngest one (5) freaked out and decided not to ride, I was really relieved there was a playground for him onsite. Not to mention the baby goats that caught all the attentions. Our 8 year old was also having a moment and didn’t want to get on the horse. I am grateful that our wrangler (didn’t get her name but she is also a teacher) showed him so much kindness and patient. He finally got on and had the best time ever!! I met the owner too. She is very punctual. When two bike dudes showed up with hunting bows and arrows and spooked one of the horses, she came out and disciplined them with firmness. I think that’s absolutely needed. You can tell she puts safety ahead of everything else. The 1 hour trail ride had gorgeous views. Parts of the trails were quite steep even for me. The horses handled great! They know what they are doing. After the ride, the kids had to go pet the goats and the parents of course had to get some mommy daddy drinks. it was just really awesome that this stable has such a unique setting to provide a much needed relaxation. I had a great time watching my daughter getting chewed up by a baby goat (not his fault, he just needed some more food) while sipping a can of cold beer. I know it costs $20 more for the ride but I will be gladly paying that given the fantastic scenery and wine &goat entertainment afterwards. The entire family of 8 had such a great time. Thank you!!

My husband and I booked the 2 hour Dark Timber Trail, it was AMAZING and Sara our guide was THE BEST! My husband and I had two very spirited horses named Chester and Bart which only made our ride that much more entertaining! I did read reviews before I booked it and the negative ones could not be more far off from the experience we had! I highly recommend Vail Stables and the 2 hour Dark Timber trail, some of the most beautiful views I have ever seen! We stayed after for Wine with goats, which was super fun. The goats are so cute and a lot of fun! It was worth every penny and we will definitely do it again the next time we are in Vail.. Whatever you do DO NOT listen to the people who left bad reviews they are probably just complainers. Thank you Vail Stables and Sara for a wonderful experience.

Great afternoon spent with the grandkids. The 3 year old got a pony ride that we took the lead and walked her. She loved it. Then my 5 year old grandson and 7 year old granddaughter and my husband and I went on an hour horseback ride. The 5 year old 's horse was tethered to the guide's horse but the 7 year old rode her own horse and was able to pull his head up many times when he bent down to eat. The horses were very well trained and followed each other up and down the mountain. The views were beautiful and the 2 guides were very attentive. A great time was had by all. Afterwards we all went to play and feed the goats which was also a lot of fun.

We signed up for the Bear Hallow Trail tour. My wife and I had our boys with us (9 and 6). We showed up for the 9AM ride and realized we had signed up for an 11AM ride by accident. The staff said they were able to take us out instead of having us leave and come back. The guides and staff were great with getting the boys comfortable and giving them great instructions. They both had so much fun and said it was their favorite part of our vacation. It was a wonderful experience. I can’t recommend them highly enough!

Horrible experience. Would never come here again. The goat yoga instructor didn’t show up and the owner showed us no empathy. The owner was disrespectful and laughed at us. Customer service was the worst I have ever seen. We asked if we could just see or pet the goats, and she laughed at us and said no. We asked if we could do horse back riding instead, with any sort of discount. But she said this wasn’t her fault and she couldn’t control her employees. She said she couldn’t give us any discount ofter driving 20 minutes there and back and having to pay both ways. We would have been totally ok with going home with a refund if she was not rude and disrespectful. Would never go here or recommend it to anyone.

Went to Goat Yoga (GOGA) during our stay in Vail. The concierge recommended it as the guys in our party were fishing so we wanted something for the girls to do. When we called, they were not offering any classes that day due to low interest. However, I asked if maybe they would consider opening a class for the two of us and they agreed to do it! My daughter in law and I were very excited and appreciate their accommodation. It is a great experience! The yoga teacher is excellent and you actually do get a yoga workout even though goats are walking all around you in the pen and laying on your mat! They allow time at the end of the class to take photos and the yoga instructor suggests different photos including placing the goats on the top of our backs! It is so fun. Recommend for anyone who loves animals and yoga!

My daughter and I went to Vail during our recent mother-daughter visit. I had booked a trail ride 2 months prior to our weekend. We both had such an amazing time on the horses, looking at the stunning nature around us, and listening to our guide, Larissa tell us interesting facts about everything around us. The horses were gentle and sure-footed; the weather was perfect; the experience was wonderful from the time we pulled up to when we patted our horses goodbye. I rode Cisco while my daughter rode Tonto...I can't say enough about how glad we were to make this a part of our fun weekend. I would recommend Vail Stables to anyone!

We really enjoyed the one hour ride up the mountain. Our guide, Luke, did a great job leading the way and answering all our questions. The trail is narrow and the view is amazing. This is not for people afraid of heights. The horses were well trained and responded well to direction from the riders. I would like to return and take the longer trail so I could spend more time riding and enjoying the scenery all around.

I reserved rides for my son (9), daughter (7) and myself and we were pumped for our adventure! Unfortunately, my daughter had other feelings as soon as she saddled up and wanted to get off Dolly right away, as it was her first time on a horse and she freaked. Kym was amazing with her and tried walking her around and explaining what was going to happen. After about 10 minutes of trying to calm her down, Kym asked what I thought and I made the decision for her to end her ride. My son and I proceeded to go on the 1.5 hour trail ride while daughter stayed back and played with the baby goats and helped take her sister on a pony ride. The trail ride was AMAZING and the wranglers were so knowledgeable and helpful. Son had a blast and cant wait to do it again. When we got back, the daughter who skipped out on the ride had the biggest smile as she had a blast playing with the baby goats. I was just happy that both daughters had a great time while we were gone. Biggest surprise was when I checked my email and noticed that I had received a refund for daughters unused ride. I did not expect that at all, since we had reserved the horse and the time. Kym and staff were very professional and helpful. Will definitely be back and recommend to anyone that wants a great experience in a beautiful setting!

Last fall, I was there when the goats were a few months old and pretty well trained and socialized. This time, the class I was in was the first class for these 3 to 4 week old goats. So adorable! The yoga is legit but we were all easily distracted by the babies. I will be returning mid-summer to see how they've matured. So fun. I recommend this experience!

Can children ride at Vail Stables? So many of the reviews mention what a great time children had, that they enjoyed pony rides, a little petting zoo area etc. But the Vail Stables website makes it very clear that no under 15s can ride. Have things changed?

Hello,
It's true that we no longer have any kid's programs or kid's horseback riding. After 16 wonderful years, we have discontinued the programs. I wish I could recommend somewhere else to go to horse camp, but I just don't know of any near Vail.
Triple G Outfitters does take kids as young as 6 on their trail rides!
Sorry for the late response. Just saw this!

Great question!!
We both have beautiful forested, mountainous terrain horse trails.
Our stables sit at 8400 feet in elevation. Our half-day trail claims to an elevation of 10,300 feet. The other trails climb to points in between. Our trails are laid out somewhat like a snowman with the one hour trail as the bottom of the snowman, the hour and a half trail is the middle of the snowman and the two hour is the head. I half-day heads to the west and later on joins the two hour trail.
Our horses are gentle, and our guides are friendly. We encourage you to hang out after your ride because we have to escape games, and goat yoga! We also have a good selection of drinks and snacks.
If you have non-riders in your group, they can hang out at the relaxation station and read a book or magazine from our lending library. if you have teeny tiny tots, they can enjoy our goat and chicken zoo or enjoy a pony ride.
We would love to see you at Vail Stables!
Travelled well
