This is a true classic. The trail stars out easy, but soon it gets a little tougher with some steeper elevation and terrain variations. I would say the trail guid is right on with their evaluation of moderate to difficult rating. Bring lots of water and a good camera, a hiking stick will help the folks that are not proficiante... This was our second attempt to see Missouri lake only to be snowed in and unable to get to the end of the trail. This time, we probably got within 100 yards of the lake but still too much snow at the end even in late June. That being said, the trail did not disappoint. This was the only trail... More

This is one of my favorite trails in Eagle County to hike. The opportunity to camp at one of the many lakes at tree line make this a great place to spend more than a few days. Don't forget your fly pole as the main large lake has some wonderful fishing. For an added bonus take the trek over the... More

we hiked the Missouri Lake Trail 2 weekends ago on a friend's recommendation who lived in Vail for many years. This is about a 6 mile round trip hike with a bit of a drive to get to it (a good hour from Avon). The last part of the drive is a twisty dirt road that can make folks carsick... More

Excellent hike for locals and energetic visitors. Trail winds through forests and open meadows with stunning wildflower views. Lake Missouri is worth your time.

This was not an easy hike especially for people from the east coast like us. The thin air makes it tough on some of the steep inclines so make sure you bring plenty of water and take breaks. Overall it's a moderate hike with a few difficult sections. The payoff was amazing lake views.

The trailhead is about a 45 minute drive from Minturn. About half of the time is on a gravel road which gets a lot of traffic. Once you get to the trailhead and find a parking space, the fun begins. The hike to the lakes is about 7 miles round trip. Elevation change is about 2,000 feet. There is a... More

Loved the hike and really pretty setting for a picnic. Good hike for "hikers" but might be too much for beginners or low landers!

My perspective: 61 yr old guy--not in top shape but walk or bike some most every day. This is a fairly strenuous trip. Some almost stairstep sections. Go 10 mi drive off the main road (CO 24) on Homestake Rd and then a right turn onto 704. Trailhead has decent parking and a restroom. On the way up, you'll have... More
