Great Day at Piney Lake

Had read several reviews on the trip to Piney Lake so was prepared for the encounter. The road up, while bumpy and rugged, was much easier than anticipated. Did it in a rental... read more

Fun! This place is definitely beautiful. The road in/out is not as bad as others have said, but it is not easy either. The lake, surrounding mountains, and fall colors were truly spectacular. We stayed in one of the lakeside glamping tents. They really need to update that description as they are not only not lakeside but actually situated behind... More

We stopped to use a picnic table to feed our infant and were shooed away by a worker who explained "they're trying to run a restaurant here and you're discouraging our guests". not sure nature this is the best location for a resort compound... My tip: remove your picnic benches!

I lived in Vail for a ski season 30 years ago. Piney River Ranch is the most beautiful spot in that area in my opinion. You have to travel a rocky dirt road that twists and turns for 11 miles to get there, but the view is worth it. We saw 3 moose on the far side of the lake.... More

My husband & I decided to check out the Piney River Ranch. It is 10.5 miles outside of Vail on very rugged, bumpy, unpaved, and narrow road. Once we arrived we were pleasantly surprised by the ranch. Not only is it on the Piney River, it looks over Piney Lake. There are beautiful trails to hike, many activities to do... More

Our daughter got married on the lakeside deck outside the rustic wedding venue at Piney. With the water and mountains behind them, the setting could not have been prettier. The views from inside the spacious timber dining room were gorgeous. The room was warm, comfortable and perfect for dancing to the great Denver band, FUNKIPHINO. The food was delicious and... More

Had read several reviews on the trip to Piney Lake so was prepared for the encounter. The road up, while bumpy and rugged, was much easier than anticipated. Did it in a rental SUV; wouldn't have wanted to do it in a low slung sedan. The folks at the front desk were helpful in describing the hiking options. It is... More

Just lovely. Green, water, wet forests, thick Alpen Birch glades. Easy hike. Trail is well maintained and easy to navigate.

We did not stay at the ranch. So have no opinion on it. We drove up to the ranch yesterday and I am here to tell you it was a huge disappointment. As others have said, the road is horrible. We were in a rental car and it took us 75 minutes to go 11 miles due to the poor... More

Brittany was such a pleasure to work with and has become a friend after having our wedding at the one and only, beautiful Piney River Ranch. She was always quick to respond to all of our inquiries during our planning process. It is always great to work with someone you WANT to work with. From the moment we met her... More

The approach brings "trail ride" to mind. After a 30 minute super bumpy (unpaved) drive one is rewarded with a spectacular panorama. The (lunch only) menu is limited but tasty and well priced. The staff couldn't be more friendly and welcoming.Several great hikes available and it's rumored that there are trout in the lake, although on our visit the wind outperformed our talent.
