- Charlie BRoseville, California55 contributionsOld mining town charmTelluride has kept out the big development that spoil many old towns that have become ski resorts. The Main Street and most of the side streets still have buildings that were built back when Telluride was a mining town and Butch Cassidy was there to rob the bank. Very pedestrian friendly and should be walked, not driven in a car.Visited August 2019Written February 23, 2020
- Taylor BChicago, Illinois8,746 contributionsColorado Avenue is Telluride's Main StreetTelluride, Colorado, has been described as the "Ski Capital of the United States," a small mountain town that has evolved from an old mining camp into one of the country's most popular vacation destinations. But the hidden gem is Main Street. Colorado Avenue is the main road that runs through the town east and west. Over the years, while the area has emerged as a ski resort, Main Street has blossomed into a downtown that rivals any small town in America. It has developed into one of the country's best cities for foodies with the quality and variety of the restaurants, cafes, wine bars, dives, bakeries, coffee shops, saloons, barbecues and pubs, even ski-access only venues. Menus include African fusion, Italian specialities, cowboy comfort foods, delicate truffles, French pastries, bison and rattlesnake. It's possible to spend an entire day on Main Street...dining, shopping, browsing, sight-seeing, gazing at art, enjoying nightlife and entertainment. Start at the Little Sheridan Hotel, which opened in 1895, and its immensely popular restaurant, which opened in 2008. Book lovers gravitate to Between the Covers bookstore, which has 10,000 books on its shelves. For a freshly brewed cup of coffee, The Cowboy Coffee is your next stop. Also the Mountain Gear Shop and Telluride Rentals and the Telluride Gallery of Fine Art with its wonderful selection of artwork that includes sculptures paintings, drawing, pastels, crafts, photography and studio jewelry and artwork by local artists.Visited September 2022Written October 4, 2022
- Kraig MAnnapolis, Maryland915 contributionsStunning Views on Main StreetThe mountains seem to rise from the edges of the city as you stroll Pacific Ave. Parking can be a bit tricky at peak but very doable most of the time. Lots of boutique shops, restaurants and...not surprisingly... real estate companies. Many original buildings remain, spruced up and now housing businesses rather than mining interests. Definitely worth a gondola ride if staying at the ski resort. Plan several hours, bring a credit card, and treat yourself to lunch and/or dinner.Visited January 2022Written January 31, 2022
- MichaelLong1963Colorado Springs, Colorado341 contributionsUnbelievable Scenery - TellurideThe town is beautiful scenery like a movie set but unfortunately the shopping is very expensive and the small restaurants/bars/grills are just average. We didn't come across anything special in terms of atmosphere but walking down Main Street is a wonderful experience but for the scenery not much else. Parking is hard to find and you have to pay which is not normal for my experience when you visit small towns. The speed limit is very slow (around 10 - 15 MPH) so you don't even have to press on the gas to drive along this street. Telluride also doesn't offer any chain hotels/motels from what we saw and overnight accommodations was very expensive from the research I did prior to our arrival so we stayed in Montrose (a little over a hour away and a beautiful drive). It's definitely worth going to this beautiful town because of how you feel your right in the middle of a canyon that is right upon you.Visited September 2020Written October 16, 2020
- kteversole213 contributionsTown's a Gem and Costs Are Diamond RatesIt's a quaint little town with Manhattan and San Francisco priced real estate . . . and all the attending costs that brings. There are few options for inexpensive food and drink. A grocery store is a viable option. List tickets are about the same as Vail. if you go in the Summer the skiing sucks but the prices may be a bit better.Visited January 2021Written June 21, 2021
- Adventurers11805Charlotte, North Carolina209 contributionsIncredible downtownMain street in Telluride is incredibly unique. You're surrounded by 14,000 ft. mountains, some still have snow in early June. The buildings all have a western themed facade, some are historic. The shops and restaurants are wonderful. People are walking the street. Colorado Ave was closed to cars on Saturday night, wonderful. The are several brew pubs, wine bars and cafes to satisfy. Just outside of downtown we viewed a herd of elk in a large meadow. There's a wonderful river walk a couple of blocks off main street. We will remember this visit forever.Visited June 2022Written June 5, 2022

The local businesses on Main Street and adjacent areas seemingly could care less whether you were a patron or not, and not only didn't welcome us but most did not even speak to us until forced by our lingering presence. - CR141244 contributionsBeautiful, fun townGreat place to hang out, shop and eat. We had a wonderful and relaxing couple of days in this town. There are so many little places to shop, stop and have a drink and listen to music. We honestly had the best (and inexpensive) steak weve eaten in a while. And every time you walk outside of a shop, you see the most amazing view.Visited June 2019Written February 21, 2020

Lots of people with their dogs. Most people wearing masks while walking around. Required for in-store shopping. Worth the trip to Telluride with lots of UTV riding. Beautiful place.Visited July 2020Written July 16, 2020

Galloping Goose buses are also operating there and it is for free so if you are lazy enough to walk this street you can let yourself be driven through. You can observe very nice view to Bridal Veil Falls as well as ski slopes. For special occasions you can also park your car in the middle of the street so you can take even cooler pictures. And like it is said in my title as well as many visitors say the view is very similar to mountains in Europe as I can confirm myself.Visited July 2021Written June 22, 2022

This town is full of unwelcoming wacko lunatics. I’ve never been in a such a strange environment in my life. The people are rude hippies with no real respect for anyone. It was like being in the twilight zone movie. I will never return and never recommend this town to anyone.

Not only is the main street in Telluride scenic, it is also filled with lots of dining, entertainment and shopping. You can spend some time strolling around, relaxing and photographing, or you could spend the entire day. Lots to do.

The architecture is beautiful. The town is very built up with limited parking. I found things to be a little more expensive in Telluride than Durango or Cortez.
There is a specialty market at the beginning of town called "The Market at Telluride". It was expensive but...the food was delicious!!!

Hi, i'm planning a small destination wedding in Placerville next September. My family and I have never been in this area and I was thinking about spending an afternoon exploring downtown Telluride (Main Street area) with the family before they fly back to our home state. Where would be a nice place to have a farewell brunch? I would also like to take everyone for a ride on the gondolas before we leave the city. Are those nearby Main street?
Any and all suggestions for things to see/do in the town of Telluride or Placerville is welcome!

You will LOVE the area. The main street is very fascinating and has a self guided historical tour which is very informative and you can visit as many or as few locations as you want. There are many, many places to eat and the gondola is free and gives a wonderful view of the city if you ride it up to the mountain top and back down.

Planning a trip to Frazer area in September. Are there any concerts, etc in Frazer or Telluride area during this time? Is it a good time to visit?

Our trip to Telluride in Sep 2018 was wonderful. We went to the Saturday night Juke Joint concerts then overnighted in the car. The Blues and Brews Festival was ongoing but we found access and travel, both into town by car and around town on foot, to be easy, arriving into town early Saturday morning. We are planning to attempt to get a one day ticket again but if unsuccessful just doing the late show with the Juke Joint ticket which remained available until showtime last year (2018). I can highly recommend you try to attend during the festival but many exciting things are always on tap in the Telluride/Durango area in the Fall.

I usually target the first of October, plus or minus a week and you'll be really close to the peak. It looks great either way.

We are coming to Colorado in June for a concert and wanted to go to Vail for a few days. What things are there to do there in the summer?
