Great little river that runs the l length of town. Lots of birds, lots of trees and it turns out lots of fish. Went fly fishing for the first time and caught a beautiful brown trout. Released it of course, but what fun!

The San Miguel has some feisty trout. The river is small and wadeable but becomes milky after rain. I had little success when the river was discolored. It did not get much fishing pressure when I was there. Basic patterns -- elk-hair caddis, Adams, and...More

Even though we walked this on a Sunday, it wasn't extremely crowded and offered lots of places to let your dog swim.

Scenic vistas, manageable river for family trip - not too rigorous but felt like you were doing some work paddling. Beautiful.

The San Miguel River Trail is an easy walk or bike ride along the river. It runs parallel to the streets of Telluride. It is easy to get to from anywhere in the town. Beautiful scenery.

There are rivers, and there are RIVERS. The San Miguel is a powerful force that deserves respect, yet is lovely and constantly changing. In winter she is full of ice and sparklingly lethal water. In spring she roars with snowmelt for the valleys below, and...More

While our family (my wife and 3 teenage boys) didn't know what to expect other than swift moving water and lots of it, the afternoon turned out perfectly. The San Miguel is picturesque, yet depending on the time of the year and related snow melt,...More
