Beautiful, Relaxing, and a Great Workout!

SSTC is a fantastic place. The instructor was easy to understand and had me XC skiing in an hour, though I definitely look as smooth as she did. Prices are super reasonable for trail tickets and rentals. Everyone there is willing to answer any questions I had. The food in the cafe hit the spot after cruising the trails.

Fun couple of hours with the kids

Relaxing spot! No crowds, easy parking, great staff. Purchased tickets and rented skis within 10 min. Kids 7 and 12 hadn’t tried Nordic skiing yet - they loved it right away. We all crashed on the first little decline and laughed so hard. Great workout, especially with how overdressed we were in our Alpine ski gear. Kids bought the best cookie afterwards. And the retail items were fun to look through in the way out. All around good time!

Good vibes here!

This is a very friendly place! I never XC skied before, so I took a group lesson that provided me with a good grasp of the basics and enabled me to tackle the easy (beginner) trails with confidence. There are more moderate level trails here, but for a true beginner like myself, the easy trails were enough of a challenge. It is laid out on part of a golf course, and the area is very pretty. The staff is quite friendly and very accommodating. I rented equipment and they made sure everything was properly fitted. They even had giant cookies at the front desk for their guests....ra nice treat after working out on those trails :-)
They told me the purple bus does not come to this location. They offer some limited shuttle service with advance reservation, and if you are taking the 10 am group lesson you’ll need to use their shuttle, as the local accommodations shuttles restrict their routes to the base gondola area until 10am.

Great x-c ski center for beginners and intermediates

The Center is located at the Rolling Stone golf course, on the right off Steamboat Boulevard just after the island in the middle of the road disappears. Follow the driveway up the hill and you will come to a building down the hill on the right. Plenty of parking. It's only 1.5 miles from the downhill mountain. The purple bus goes half way and lets you walk the last .75 miles.
As you come in, there is a cafe on the right. Soups and Stromboli are great. Down the stairs is the desk and store. They sell trail passes and have an excellent rental stock. I also bought a pair of skis there on mid-season sale.
If you haven't cross-country skied before, book a lesson. The people leading them are very experienced. If you just want to ski, go, but realize that the trails total about 15K, mostly intermediate. They're nicely groomed and they travel through some nice woods, over streams and under roads. But, they do not make a very long network - if you're experienced, you'll do multiple loops.
