Kitchen and Garden Tour supporting Strings
Jul 2018
Ok, so this is a review of the July Kitchen and Garden tour that benefitted the Steamboat Springs Orchestra. I was visiting Steamboat Springs with a college friend and found this event on the Steamboat Springs Things to do in July website. I ordered my tickets online for a small discount. The morning started with official ticket and map pickup along with a continental breakfast. The breakfast featured beautiful music by a harpist along with egg casserole dishes, burritos, fruit and pastries. More than I was expecting. We visited 5 of the 6 homes on the tour. I loved that you could begin at any one of the homes. There was a special ticket that included a small bus option if you didn’t want to drive. Also you could’ve opted for the optional extra lunch. We chose to drive ourselves. All of the homes featured the home’s gardens where the landscape architect or master gardeners answered any question you might have. All of the homes also featured a specialty vehicle including a Rolls Royce, Tesla, an Indian classic motorcycle, and more. Most of the homes allowed access to the homes interiors including the kitchen and living areas. All of the homes treated the attendees with creative bite size offerings from local specialty restaurants or caterers. The tour began officially at 9 am. We spent 4 hours seeing 5 homes. This was a fantastic opportunity to see some of the most beautiful homes in Steamboat Springs the same weekend as the balloon rodeo.

We were fortunate enough to see a world class 3 piece jazz group here and both the musicians and the venue were outstanding. It is a small venue and there is not a bad seat in the house. It is a very intimate, upscale and comfortable venue that improves any event. They had a bar and and allowed drinks into the concert space. Highly recommend checking it out.

What a surprise! This intimate theater provided a venue that equaled the professionalism of the musicians and dancers and vocalist.

Consumate musicianship
Sep 2014 • Couples
What a difference professional musicians make! This symphony consists of professional musicians from the area, and from around Colorado. It is wonderful that Steamboat Springs can support this high level of musicianship. I expected to see a mostly amateur local orchestra, and was blown away by the quality of this group. The highest quality of art requires that the artist gains expertise in the craft, and learns their tools inside out. Professional musicians spend long hours practicing and honing their craft. Only then can they make their instruments soar and bring out the intent of the composer. When we pay the price of tickets for such an experience, we are paying for all the time these artists spend in mastering their instruments. Even that is not enough. Local communities have to raise additional funds because ticket sales are insufficient to pay for this level of quality.

I applaud the community of Steamboat Springs for supporting professional musicians and for giving us the sublime experience of being transported by these artists. If you are in Steamboat Springs when this orchestra is playing, do not miss it!

Professional craft at its finest
Sep 2014 • Couples
Visiting from Oregon, it was surprising to find a true professional orchestra in a small city. Patrons of the arts here have put together the funding to hire excellent professional musicians and a wonderful music director/conductor.

Many professionals work many hours to hone their craft, and are paid well for it. Professional musicians spend hours and years in the full time pursuit of excellence in their craft, but most have a difficult time earning a living at it. It is therefore refreshing to see a community that supports these men and women who have worked so hard to give us a performance that transports and uplifts us.

The concert we experienced included the monumental Tchaikovsky 6th Symphony, then uplifted us with music from several movies, composed by John Williams.

This orchestra includes several musicians who live in the area, though most are contracted throughout the region. It is the life of musicians that they must travel extensively from gig to gig.

The art of the composer's vision cannot be fully realized without musicians who have mastered their instruments, and a conductor who brings them all together in team effort. In the SSO, you will hear excellence realized.
