F.M. Light & Sons was our first stop in Steamboat/Clark, CO after getting checked into our cabin. We saw signs for it from a good ways down the highway! They allow dogs in the store, which was a huge plus for us as my jack russell mix traveled with us. The selection is great, lots of western wear, souvenirs, memorabilia, and handmade soaps. I bought lots of postcards, a magnet, and some handmade soap that had puppy prints on it. My sister-in-law bought a very nice sweater/hoodie for a great price!

Love this store. always stop in to see what is new. The last couple of years we ask for Chris from Florida. What an awesome young man. Very polite, helpful and knowledgeable. Love it when we are in the store and he shapes someone's hat! He does an awesome job. After reading your employee review found out that he is a US Marine and had a few tours to Iraq. Thank you for your service Chris! Thank you FM Light for hiring a veteran! Till next trip, Chris! Larry from LA

All along the highway were signs to visit the store. SO, I got to went the store. It was fun for me to wander around and admire everything. I found a hat I loved, but being on budget constraints, I left it behind. Lots of Hats, clothing and boots to choose from, and souvenirs.

Historic or not, the terrible yellow signs are a blight on the amazing scenery driving down HWY 40. The store itself is overpriced and only caters to suckers from out of town looking for a souvenir. There are no other billboards around, in fact, they have been banned, and yet this company is allowed to have over 300 of them, claiming they are a nod to history. Take a page from a history book and get rid of them, returning the view to mother nature.

The worst experience of the weekend. The store was crowded - with both people and merchandise - and the staff was completely overwhelmed. Lines were long, check-out was slow, and the cashiers were just plain rude. I'll never go back.

A can't miss century old Western clothier and novelty/souvenir shop located in downtown Steamboat Springs. We were touring the town and after having seen at least 25 roadside signs along Rtes 9 and 40, the grandkids just had to stop in and they took us with them!!! Well it turned out to be a cowgirl fashion show as our 2 grand daughters tried the hats, the boots, the vests... and waltzed all around the store! Great photos will provide wonderful memories! Yes it is somewhat of a tourist magnet but just part of the Western draw to Steamboat.

Excellent selection of western wear that is truly wearable for non-western folks! Great denim and accessories. Beautiful displays and good old country music playing in the background.
Fun experience and great historical place to visit-

As you can see in the photo - the staff is wearing their masks!

This is a Steamboat tradition dating back to 1905. We always stop here to check out the latest western wear and let the grandkids sit on the horse outside. Prices are all reasonable and comparable to western stores on the plains. The selection of cowboy hats and boots can't be beat. And of course there are some kiddie and vacation souvenirs available for the tourists.

Overall, a great store and worth the stop.

Wonderful service, selection of quality brand name merchandise. The manager helped fit my husband with his first Stetson. I found a beautiful rabbit and Sherpa long vest on clearance! A definite must-stop!!

I am so glad that you appreciated the quality of our merchandise and that you received great service. Peter, our manager, truly does do a great job with all things in the store - including hat fitting. That first Stetson is always something to remember! I hope your husband continues to enjoy it for years to come. Thank you for taking the time to leave this review. We hope to see you again soon! - Lindsay, 5th Generation Owner

I was very excited to visit this store because I’m an avid wearer of women’s western clothes and boots and the fact that is a historic business that my cattle rancher friends had recommended.
I assumed this store would have a big selection of mid and high range brands, instead sadly it is filled with low end junk apparently aimed at tourists.
No or tiny selection of Ariat, Stetson, Panhadle, Wrangler, Kimes, etc. I was very surprised. My husband had the same experience in the men’s department. Jax Farm and Ranch in Ft. Collins has a way, way better selection of good quality clothes and boots. I’m sorry to write this, sincerely hope the management will up their game. Very disappointed.
