The Yampa River Core Trail is a seven mile, non-motorized multi-use trail that follows the meandering Yampa River from Dougherty Road through downtown Steamboat Springs to Bear River Park. Groves of cottonwood trees, excellent fishing, scenic overlook benches, and lovely picnic spots make this trail a great place for a leisurely stroll or a commuter route through town. Additionally, there are many parks and playgrounds and more miles of trail that can be accessed off of the Core Trail.

We biked 9 miles along this lovely bike trail. The views of the aspens and the Yampa River are awesome. The trail is well maintained expect when we were there, we found road construction downtown. The trail runs alongside downtown restaurants that are very friendly to bikers with racks outside. We stopped for lunch at Carl's Tavern. It was a... More

This trail can be reached from a variety of places within Steamboat Springs. If you are downtown just walk over one block and you will see it. It's level and goes along the stream. There are people fly fishing so that is interesting to watch if you have never seen that before. If you do fly fish, you can access... More

What a great public space...7 miles one-way along the Yampa River for walking, biking. Several bridges take you over the Yampa. Many benches and parks along the way for sitting and enjoying the outdoors. The Trail runs by the Botanical Park, free to the public and a lovely place to walk through. Trail also runs adjacent to downtown so you... More

I rented a bike from Steamboat Ski and Bike Kare (who are very conveniently located downtown to access the trail, and are fine friendly folks as well), and cycled from one end to the other. I enjoyed myself immensely, and stopped at the Botanical Gardens and the old railway station along the way.

Our first morning of vacation in Steamboat Springs, my wife and I walked this trail after breakfast. We went an hour out and an hour back. Right around 4 miles. What makes this trail so special is the Yampa River that you parallel and cross over several times via little bridges. Lots of trees provide shade. The sound of the... More

We did not find the trail to be very well marked in several places. Figured it out, and it was a great fairly flat ride, good for all ages, even saw some elderly folks on their ride-on scooters and in wheelchairs too. Better have your GPS or satellite phone map if not familiar with the area.

This is a nice jaunt along the river, but most people were riding bicycles. Wish there was a park bench or two to sit, but really no place to rest. Fun little garden placed along path which attracted hummingbirds, very nice treat. Wish path was closer to river, not really viewed while walking or riding.

Great way to start your visit and get acclimated to the altitude. Rent a bike and take off. Hot springs, botanic park, eagles nesting, great views.
