About
The Yampa River Core Trail is a seven mile, non-motorized multi-use trail that follows the meandering Yampa River from Dougherty Road through downtown Steamboat Springs to Bear River Park. Groves of cottonwood trees, excellent fishing, scenic overlook benches, and lovely picnic spots make this trail a great place for a leisurely stroll or a commuter route through town. Additionally, there are many parks and playgrounds and more miles of trail that can be accessed off of the Core Trail.

Easy paved path
Jul 2021
A nice easy ride along the river. Bring water and a hat if it's sunny - there's not a lot of shade along the way.

Great link from ski area to town
Aug 2021
Easy to follow and bike trail that runs the length from the ski area into downtown. Only real elevation change is up to the ski area. Well marked on trail signs and online. There is even a bike service stop (tools and pump) along the trail.

A good hiking/biking trail but major parts are closed off right now
Aug 2021
This trail snakes along the Yampa River and along the town of Steamboat. It is a nice, flat hiking/biking trail but unfortunately, major parts of the trail are closed off and require hiking/biking along Route 40, which is not so great. Hopefully, it will all be reopened soon.

Wonderful Trail
Jul 2021
This is a great trail to navigate Steamboat via bicycle or to use for fitness. It can be busy, but still a well-maintained treasure.

Great for biking & walking
Jul 2021 • Family
The Core Trail is a great paved trail that follows along the Yampa River. It’s a great wide trail for kids and families. Great views as you ride or walk.

The core trail is perfect for the morning walk
Jul 2021
The dedicated core trail for walking, running, and biking, is ideal for all that want to stay fit and not worry about too much elevation change. The core trail is always clean and easy to navigate.

Note about Yampa River
Jul 2021
My note is about the Yampa River, not the core trail (I couldn't find a category for the Yampa River alone). We visited in July 2021 and were looking forward to tubing the Yampa River with the tubes we had brought. The local publications recommend tubing from June-August, BUT when we arrived, they had shut down the river to all recreation. Apparently the water temperatures are getting too warm for the fish, and tubing makes them even higher?? Just a warning for others hoping to tube. // If you visit the core trail, make sure you check out the Sulfur Spring close to the library. It smells worse than anything we smelled in Yellowstone. A must smell! ;)

Beautiful trail - need an adjacent non-concrete trail for runners
Jun 2021
Beautiful trail that goes by the Yampa. I really enjoyed using the trail. However, as a runner that avoids concrete at all costs, this trail was disappointing. It would be great if there was an adjacent path on soft surfaces.

Paved bike/hike trail - a river trail
Jun 2021
I love when a town has a river trail. I have no idea how long this one is, but I imagine it goes for miles.
