Since we opened our doors in 1990, we have been Steamboat's largest full service bookstore and the locals' favorite meeting place for Good Books, Good Coffee and Good Friends. What about our store? We are a full service, independent bookstore, with extensive collections of current literature, fiction, history and memoirs, young adults. We feature a large children’s collection, and our famous treehouse reading space where our youngest children can escape. Our café serves the best coffee drinks in town, pastries, Big Train drinks, smoothies, soups and salads for lunch, and wine in the evening. We are pleased to be serving Storm Mountain Coffee, roasted locally in Oak Creek.

Living just outside of Denver, we make a point to visit Steamboat at least once a summer. This year marks our fifth consecutive year spending a couple weeks in the mountains once school is out. In those five years, we've made a point to visit this bookstore every time, and each year, it feels like an entirely new store. They... More

Management response:

Jerry, Thank you for your review and especially for your criticism. I especially appreciate your reaction to our children's section, as it means we're doing something wrong in showing our collection, as it has the same number of books - 3600 - as it has for the past two years, and the distribution between teen fiction and other children's books... If you want a little break while shopping, this little bookstore has really good coffee. It was a nice find! They also have a used book section upstairs in their shop. The used books are not that discounted, but they are in good shape.

Off the Beaten Path is everything you look for in an independent bookstore. While it is not large, it offers bestsellers, local interest and authors, new and used selections, recent signed first editions and some quirky tomes. It is inviting and designed for browsing. There is an extensive children's and young adult section. The staff recommendations revealed some interesting possibilities.... More

This is a must-stop shop for anyone who loves to read, filled with kindred souls, hot drinks, and great books. I come everytime I'm in town and wish I could come every week. And the greeting cards are a treasure-find bonus.

Amazing little find during our holiday to steamboat. A gorgeous, original bookshop that is full of unique items and books that you cannot find everywhere. Steamboat is fortunate to have an upscale, eclectic bookstore like Off the Beaten Path. While it has changed locations over the years, it has remained a favorite place to spend some leisurely browsing through its surprisingly diverse selection of reading materials. It is a bit of a throwback to the times when bookstores were appreciated for their individual character. Their... More

The bookstore portion of the establishment is cute but the selection is a little slim. It does have a decent size used section though. Check that out. The coffee shop portion of the place is more promising with some very nice pastries.

This bookstore is more than just a bookstore, locals love it which is always a good sign. They have presents for tourists, it is also a coffee and pastry shop and you can eat a quick snack that is made on the spot. Very pleasant atmosphere also. I warmly recommend it...
