Dutch Creek was purchased for personal use of the property in the Fall of 2011. It is no longer operating as a guest ranch.

A diamond in the rough
Feb 2012
John and Wanda treat all customers with gracious hospitality - the cabins here are among the forest, where you can hike, horseback ride, snow shoe or cross country out your back door. Clean, well run, and the food is exceptional up in Steamboat Lake. They used to run Chart Houses and so the preparation and quality is very consistent. A local's favorite and a secret in the wintertime - perfect for a welcome change from eating in Steamboat and the drive is spectacular and romantic.

Not Open in the Winter?
Dec 2011
Last time I checked, the dining room was closed in the winter, and only open in the summer. This is a great place right by Steamboat Lake, and as North Routt (County) as it gets. Elk, beef, trout, salads at high-end picnic tables inside, with a giant rock fireplace in a sitting room. It's as good as it gets, and worth the trip, IF you can catch it while it's open.

nice winter get away

We take our out of town guests here for the sleigh ride dinners.
It's not too expensive, and they get to do something most people don't get the opportunity to try - a night time, horse drawn sleigh ride.

Scenic and fun...but be careful!
Jul 2011
We booked a 1.5 hour ride while on vacation for four adults, two teenagers and one child. In a previous vacation to Steamboat, we rented horses in town near the alpine slide and found that it was not very enjoyable (hot, not enough trees, not scenic enough). Dutch Creek Ranch was a tremendous improvement! We found it very scenic (lake, forest, etc.) and were glad to have booked a morning (9-ish) ride to beat the summer heat. The staff and guide were very friendly, but I think we arrived too close to our ride time and the saddle-up process for seven people made them fall a bit behind. Because of this, I don't think the saddles were properly cinched. Half-way through our ride, my saddle began to slide and I had to call the guide over to fix it. Very uncomfortable and very scary. Then, toward the end of the ride, our youngest daughter was riding lead behind the guide and she fell off the horse. Correction, her saddle slid sideways on her. I don't see this as her fault and it was terribly frightening to see a 6-year-old fall to the ground screaming. Thank goodness there was a bush to land on. I feel the saddles were fixed in a hasty manner. If you choose this ride/ranch, just be careful to watch during the saddle-up process. Otherwise, it was scenic and enjoyed by everyone.
