This was our second time doing the dinner sleigh ride with Bar Lazy L Ranch. It was wonderful! Hearing the jingle bells on the horses while riding through the snow-covered countryside was magical. We loved the cozy barn with the wood burning stove. Food was very good; not fancy, but delicious and plentiful! Highly recommend the ribeye steak, cooked to whatever temperature you request. Our daughters had the trout, which was a bit dry and fishy (yes, it's a fish...but fresh fish cooked right doesn't taste "fishy"). But the sides were really yummy, amazing dinner rolls, delicious homemade brownies for dessert. It was great to be able to bring our own wine to accompany dinner! The entertainment was not who we expected (perhaps the usual entertainer was not available that night and someone was pinch-hitting), but it was OK (our first sleigh ride dinner featured The Yampa Valley Boys...fantastic! So our expectations were high). The family who runs the business was very friendly and accommodating at dinner, checking on all the guests. My only suggestion might be for both the transportation drivers and sleigh drivers to make more conversation with the guests. Would love to hear about the history of the ranch, the names of the horses, etc. Instead they were all silent the whole time. Would love to return again though!

My husband assembled 14 of our friends to celebrate my 60th birthday. The sleigh ride through the snow, under the stars, beneath cozy blankets will be unforgettable. Everyone loved the venue, in the beautifully decorated hayloft of an old barn. Having 4 entrees to choose from pleased every palate. Yampa Valley Boy musician provided fun, musical entertainment, but was subtle enough not to interrupt our conversations. It was a warm, delicious, special experience outside of our hometown of Steamboat Springs. Thanks for the memorable birthday!!

Very cool experience from the bus ride out further and further into the country away from town to the sleighs and giant pulling horses that awaited us parked off the gravel road. We boarded the sleighs and headed across fields and wooded areas to a rustic hay barn revamped for a group dinner complete with music and a cattle drive style dinner of steak or trout with the best baked potato I ever ate. A country crooner on an acoustic guitar and harmonica provided some great songs as the rest of the crew provided dinner cooked in the open kitchen as we watched. The barn loft of re-sawn lumber is adorned with historic items collected from as far back as the early 1800s when the family first arrived in the valley. The whole evening was a wonderful experience and a bit of time travel as we were taken back to a simpler time in the past when the land was worked and cared for. Well worth it!

The horses and sleigh ride at night were beautiful. However, it would have been better if the driver gave a history of the Steamboat area during our ride. The family that runs the ranch were pleasant and the food and byob was fine. Yampa Valley Steve's first part of entertainment was good with some sing a longs and John Denver songs. He then lost the room with a long winded story involving Cinderella and another song about all the family being related. Not fun! I know it may not be what he wants but he is there for entertainment and the audience. The evening would be much better if he stuck to well known John Denver, country, Eagles etc. songs. The ending of the evening was a disappointment.

Nothing fancy but plain old fashioned fun, enhanced with good food, and the amazing sleigh ride through the woods. They treat you like family and all in all you leave the evening feeling just great. Dress warmly and don't forget to take your own libations.

Pay attention to the weather and dress appropriately. I forgot to bring a hat and froze my ears off! The sleigh ride is in a large sleigh with 4 or 5 rows pulled by two massive horses.
We followed a path that gave us excellent views of the surrounding mountains and the starry sky.
Dinner was upstairs in a barn like structure with wooden benches and tables. The room was heated by wood and/or gas. The ventilation wasn't the best so I didn't enjoy the stuffiness of that after a while.
It's a family run business and everyone has their part. Dinner was good and filling. We also had entertainment by a western singer that did his best to involve us, make us feel welcome, and entertain.
It was a cool memorable night.

This is a fun family friendly evening. The Van picked us up at the transit center at Steamboat Mountain Base and the ride was about 40 minutes or so. The sleigh ride is about half an hour and is very pretty along the river, fields and woods. Dinner is a simple affair of steak or trout with beans, corn, roll and butter and baked potato. Very tasty except for the potato that was way undercooked (for everyone at our table). Music was provided and that was good also. Bring some cash with you to tip at the end of the night.
Would have loved to ride the sleigh again after dinner but the van picks you up at dinner building.

The entire experience was great. They were prompt picking us up at Wells Fargo, the sleigh ride was really nice and dinner was great. We didn't get to hear the Yampa Valley guy advertised on their website but the woman that sang was also very good. All in all, it was a very pleasant evening.

Our driver for the sleigh was 6th generation in Steamboat Springs. When they stopped to let the horses rest (deep snow) he answered questions about the ranch and their history there. It’s a family run operation and they work so well together. They were all welcoming and helpful. The food was good, the steak and baked potato being our favorite. We were entertained before supper and again after by Steve Jones. He was fun and enjoyable. Please remember to bring some cash to tip the family and buy a CD!!
When leaving if at all possible do go back to the lot by sleigh not the van. The ride with the bright stars was just amazing!

We had a wonderful time! Everything from the delightful sleigh ride to the delicious dinner, the music, and the hospitality -- it was a fantastic ending event for our family ski vacation in Steamboat Springs this year. We want to have a repeat another year.

Because of an unexpected heavy snowfall, some of our family members could not make the trip to Steamboat Springs. A winter storm last Wednesday closed more than 200 miles of freeway between Arizona and New Mexico. The Yeagers were true to their word and adjusted our reservation without complaint, even though we had initially arranged for more family members than could attend.
