I’ve hiked and run this trail many times. One of my favorite events during the autumn season is the Ute Mountaineer Aspen Golden Leaf Half Marathon starting on Fanny Hill, utilizing much of Government Trail, and finishing at Koch Park in Aspen.

Government trail runs between Aspen and Snowmass Village. It's a fairly easy 9 mile walk compared to the hikes in town. It's a little of everything from heavily wooded to big views. A great way to spend a few hours.

great trail for all ages and abilities. Winds through the mountain and through wild flowers and aspen groves. I would consider it an easy downhill option

Beautiful trail, but mountain bikers race past at dangerous speeds and scream nasty things at hikers.

The East and West parts of this trail are very different, but both are great hikes, depending on what you feel like doing. I really like the part that goes from Aspen Rec Center to the top of Wood Road on Snowmass. It is uphill, but...More

Ran this trail in the Golden Leaf half Marathon. Great trail, very scenic, but also very challenging especially when you are running it!

Decided to skip the Maroon Bells and crossed the street to get on a local Aspen Trail. It was much more interesting than expected and quite secluded. There is a huge canyon directly across from the Maroon Bells parking lot. You can't see it from...More
