The water in Ice Lake is some of the bluest I've ever seen! It is an absolutely amazing sight! The hike at times was a little daunting, but the reward of seeing Ice Lake made it worth it. The water is such a deep blue...More

The guide books said it was one of the best, and after our walk up there today I will heartily agree. And the deep azure blue color of the lake is unlike any other high lake I've been too. That was the bonus.

The hike is tough, but the views are well worth it. We made sure to be at the trailhead at dawn to avoid the thunderstorms that occur in the afternoons. We had perfect weather, gorgeous wildflowers, and breathtaking views. This is a must-do hike if...More

This trail has fallen victim to its own popularity and it is VERY crowded with hikers, lots of trail runners all of who do not leash their dogs, who go out into the fields to harass the wildlife. If you are looking for a wilderness...More

Don't miss this hike but don't expect blue water and wild flowers yet. It's still covered with snow on Memorial Day weekend! Be prepared to walk through snow fields. Wonderful experience and we also will revisit in the summer.

Made a review before for Ice Lake but the entire trail is so awesome. Even being out of shape and not at all used to the high altitude we just couldn't get enough of it.

Blue like the Caribbean, after a few hours hike. About 4 miles 2700 ft. Friendly hikers along the trail will motivate you to continue up. We backpacked and camped. Brought way too much gear, so if you decide to camp out... PACK LIGHT. We hiked...More

Upper lake basin is gorgeous! We visited Ice lake and Island Lake and couldn't take enough photos. Every step we took had amazing views of Lower lake basin, and when you get to the lakes they are a beautiful saturated cerulean blue! So worth the...More

This is a superb day from Durango - a pretty hike with lots of "wow" factor, great photo ops too. waterfalls and creeks along the way. Water at the Ice Lakes is turquoise. We continued to the final lakes but they were not as impressive...More

Being a flat lander this hike was a little difficult for me because of the gain in elevation and lack of oxygen but it was so INCREDIBLE! Ice Lake is Beautiful and the lower basin is full of wild flowers.... If you have never hiked...More

If you park at the standard trailhead, across from South Mineral Campground, there shouldn't be an issue. If you park at the lesser used trailhead off Clear Lake Road, which cuts off several hundred feet of elevation gain... More
