About
Wood's High Mountain Distillery was born on a raft trip in the Grand Canyon over 20 years ago. While sipping whiskey in one of the most inspiring places on earth, PT Wood decided to pursue the dream of handcrafting his own spirits in downtown Salida. The dream soon became reality and PT and his brother, Lee partnered together to make it happen. We found our current home and after major renovations, installed “Ashley” our antique 1880s era German copper pot still. Wood’s launched November 13, 2012. In 2018, Ashley was given some much-needed help with the addition of two new 2400-liter stills and a 20-plate column. Currently, the distillery produces American Malt Whiskeys, Alpine Rye Whiskey, three styles of gin, Elderflower Liqueur, and Colorado Potato Vodka along with other ongoing projects. The Tasting Room is open daily and tours are available by appointment. You can choose from product samplers, craft cocktails, bottle sales and Wood’s merchandise in a casual, fun environment.

Stumbled upon this place while exploring Salida this weekend. So glad we tried it. I tried one of the best cocktails I’ve had in a long time- the ginger pear snap- I believe is what it’s called. So perfectly balanced, and a cool presentation. The smokiness you get from the smoldering cinnamon stick, combined with the aroma of rosemary and the subtle ginger and pear of the drink itself is absolutely delightful. I could have had several, but had to head out of town that afternoon. This place will be my first stop on my next trip. Excellent staff and ambiance.

This review is a long time coming as we have now gone to Woods Distillery 2 years in a row and have loved it both times. Last year, on our 13th wedding anniversary, my hubby and I stopped in to share and taste a drink or 3 and found ourselves amazed by the incredibly knowledgeable distiller, Taylor, and the awesome red headed mixologist. We had wonderful conversations with them and an amazing mixology lesson which resulted in an awesome gift from Taylor. We enthusiastically and full heartedly recommend this wonderful place. Our 2nd (and not final) visit was during Covid so things weren’t quite as conversational, but drinks were still great. Hope to see you soon, friends!

We visited this distillery last year. We had a tour and tasting which were amazing. We pick up a bottle of Tenderfoot American Malt Whiskey every time we visit Colorado. My brother-in-law sent a bottle for Christmas, knowing how much we like it. This bottle was even better than previous ones. I cannot emphasize enough the quality of the liquors from this facility. They should be available across the US for everyone to enjoy!

We have been patrons of Woods since it opened. When we came in tonight, the blonde server was just plain rude, we walked out. My husband read something from their sign, not even talking to her and she had a snide remark. I said something to
My husband about a drink they previously had, again, not talking to her snd she had some smart as comment. We were done and went to a really cool place across the street with great customer service and drinks.
I don’t usually leave poor reviews, but she was hard to take.

We did a brewery tour here since we heard fantastic things about Wood’s. We got there a couple minutes before the tour would start which was fine because we ordered drinks and sat a table. This bar is by far my favorite that I’ve visited thus far. The bartenders were perfect and the drinks amazing. Our distillery tour started and our guide she was fabulous. The only issue I had with the tour, there was a blonde lady that was following with a clipboard and jotting down notes which was a distraction and I can’t help if this is the same woman on the phone saying she didn’t work Saturdays! She even asked our guide questions like she was trying to see if she knew her stuff; if you can take that out; it’s really not professional. But other than that, we had a great time! Definitely would recommend coming here for a good drink.

We stopped in here after wandering around the town. Very charming interior. We were interested in tasting their spirits. They have a 3 flight option so we chose a gin, the whiskey and a rye and split it between the two of us. Nice to be able to taste each and they thoughtfully supplied some ice and water to add if we liked. Impressed with their set up of the flight. We liked the rye quite a bit and ended up buying a bottle.

Came here for drinks with friends. Unique atmosphere and decor, very welcoming and cozy. Tried the Sawatch Whiskey and enjoyed it so much I had a second. Great service and knowledgeable staff. This place is a must if you’re looking for a relaxing drink in Salida.

We really enjoyed the atmosphere and libations at Wood’s. They have some unique cocktails (the Yacht Club was my favorite, but all three we tried were very good), and we got a bottle to take home as well. Recommend stopping by.

We have visited Salida 3 times, and never without spending some time at Woods High Mountain Distillery. The atmosphere is nothing short of perfect. The cocktails are unique and the menu changes seasonally. We have never been disappointed. You will never forget your time here. Highly recommend!

You walk in thinking you don't drink whiskey or rye, you walk out a whiskey and rye drinker.
The bartenders are incredible mixologist, mixes up the perfect seasonal drinks.
They'll go as far as asking what you like or don't like and then making a drink based on that.
I still say I don't drink whiskey unless I'm at Woods High Mountain Distillery.
They own the game.
