About
While we take the art of winemaking seriously, we like to have fun too. A favorite since 1988, we're known for pioneering Colorado wines made from local grapes and fruit, with names like Laughing Cat, Cougar Run, and a Dinosaur series. Carlson Vineyards, a small farm winery, produces premium wines in the heart of Colorado wine country above the town of Palisade, at an altitude of 4700 ft. Grape wines: Riesling, T-Red (Lemberger), Sweet Baby Red, Shiraz, Merlot, Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer. Fruit wines: Cherry, Plum, Peach and Pearadactyl (Pear-Apple). Relax and savor the scenic vistas of the Grand Valley and Colorado River too. Located on Palisade's Fruit & Wine Scenic Byway around mile marker 6 on East Orchard Mesa.

Stopped by Carlson Vineyards for a wine tasting and had a delightful experience. Met the winemaker and his very gracious wife who made us feel very appreciated and welcome. Shaded grassy backyard with comfortable furniture. They issue the tasting customers a book with descriptions and prices for each of their wines so one can tell which wines they might prefer. $10 for a flight of five wines. Flight fees waived if you purchase 3 bottles. Who knew Colorado wines were so tasty. We had a very enjoyable afternoon. Don’t miss it!

Carlson has greatly upped their game in the new (to us) outdoor wine tasting area. We were used to the indoor venue, and this ourdoor area with adirondack chairs near the vines was so pleasant. Great staff provided the tasting and we enjoyed it so well we added a glass extra for each of us. A bit out of the way to go to the vineyard, so if that is a problem try the in town tasting room (which we have not visited).

We also noted the new wines since our last visit (former owners retired). An excellent brochure explained the wine options very clearly. We are of the opinion that the wines have improved and expanded in palate range.

Warm and welcoming staff. The owner/vintner even stopped at our table to visit even though it was a busy weekend afternoon. We loved the wines...bought a case of assorted types of wine. We were SO surprised to discover so many we liked at ONE place! We sat outside under the trees and enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere. Tastings were ample and the $8 tasting fee was waived when we bought 3 bottles. This place is our favorite winery in the area! Not pretentious. Great wines!

Carlson Vineyards was our first stop while visiting Palisade wine country for our 30th anniversary. We packed a picnic lunch and their backyard shaded seating area was perfect. The beakers used for wine tasting was a creative and whimsical touch!
The staff were knowledgable and friendly. There was a winery cat versus the vineyard dogs which was also a whimsical thing. We enjoyed sampling the whites and reds, but I ended up having a lovely glass of the chardonnay to have with our picnic lunch. We left with 3 bottles to bring home. Don't let the exterior of the front building deter you. The inside in welcoming and backyard with vineyard views just lovely.

Two of us love wine and the third person was equally welcome under a tree in the backyard in comfortable chairs. It was hottt the day we visited, but the shade and breeze helped.

We bought three tasty bottles of wine after tasting five delicious wines.
Wish we had brought snacks and might have enjoyed a glass of wine after the tasting.
Lovely staff and very well informed and welcoming.

Would like to highly recommend a visit to Carlson Vineyards. Excellent tasting setup, $10 for five of your choice, with an order sheet for you and friends to compare notes. Charge waived if you buy three bottles, which we did all did.
Greeted by welcoming staff, sat outside in beautiful setting, owner made sure all was good, and gave us a little tour of their bottling process on our way out.
I'm a bit of of wine guy, and was so impressed by Palisade's wine industry, and Carlson's in particular.

We stopped on a Wednesday afternoon and had a wonderful time with staff and our tasting was excellent. There are many different styles of wine with which to choose for your tasting. The outdoor tasting area was nice. They are doing a little construction to open up the retail area but should be done in a couple of weeks. It will open up and brighten up their retail area.

Every time we visit the Grand Valley wine area, we make it a point to visit one of our favorite wineries, Carlson Vineyards Winery. They are like visiting an old friend. We enjoy tasting their wines. The tasting is always topped off by a tasting of their cherry wine and a bit of dark chocolate. Now I must admit I don’t care much for sweet wines ,but somehow I have developed a taste for this cherry dark chocolate combination. If you want I visit a friendly winery with many interesting Colorado wines, I’d suggest you give Carlson a visit.

Great atmosphere! Beautiful shaded area for guests. Wine flights (5) in lieu of tastings due to COVID-19. Great prices, water provided. Owner stopped by more than once to check on us and tell us about their business.

Very casual little winery that seemed a little "worn around the edges." Service was very friendly but the wines were just so-so for our tastes.
We sat outdoors where the rusted clothesline, mismatched furniture, uneven lawn, and worn chairs gave this a very rural vibe.
