- aramyersAlbuquerque, New Mexico29 contributionsSnowy Treasure FallsEven with the snow, it was beautiful and the hike up was worth it! The path was wet but pine needles on the snow made it for an easy walk up. Upon reaching the falls, it was nice to get cooled by the mist!Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 5, 2024
- Becky YOklahoma City, Oklahoma137 contributionsBreathtaking!I would give this 20 stars if I could! You can see ok in the parking lot, but it’s a short hike up to the top! Very doable & not hard at all. Being hit by the mist was magical! So beautiful. My favorite waterfall we’ve been to yet!Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 2, 2024
- Susanne TNorth Carolina Mountains, North Carolina1,917 contributionsGreat waterfall to seeIt's a beautiful right off the main highway. You can view the fall from the parking lot overlook, but it is totally worth it to climb/walk up to the bridge (about 15 minutes) to get a closer look. You can also go another five minutes to get closer, but be ready to get wet. We had a great time enjoying our little break from driving. If the parking lot is full, there is a huge pullout across the street, where you can parkVisited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 22, 2024
- Lori G3 contributionsWell worth the hike. This was listed as a 1/4 mile hike to the falls. Note that most of that is uphill and you are in a higher altitude. The path was easy to walk on though. We were here late morning on a Monday in late August so not too busy. We had time to take pictures. It is very pretty and worth the hike.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 27, 2024

The regular trail (not the primitive trail) is a 1/4 mile of zigzagging uphill to reach the falls. When we went in August, the water flowing over the falls was only a trickle. My wife and I did not feel the hike/effort was worth it. I'm sure it must be more impressive at other times of the year. We would recommend hiking at Chimney Rock or some other nearby attraction instead.

We arrived at peak melt so the waterfall was absolutely amazing. It is a quick walk that just about anyone can do and it is well worth it. I recommend taking the left path up for those that want it as easy as possible but it is only about a 15 min walk tops and well worth it. Would lover to see when the falls are frozen as well :). Well work the brief trip and we went at 10am on a Sat and there was no one there but it was busy around 11-12 when we happened to drive by again. Make sure to go to the top after you take pictures on the bridge to the mist deck. Again about a 2 min hike up to that next step.

Definitely worth the hike. I will say the hike was a little more than I expected. My special needs daughter and her grandparents did not even attempt the hike. Actually Grammie (72 years old) attempted and returned back to the truck. She is in pretty good shape. My teenage girls were gone with their eight year old cousin coming behind them.
We are from Texas, and I do believe we were not quite ready for the altitude difference.
It is not wheel chair or walker accessible. There is a scenic area that is wheelchair accessible on the ground level.
It is a dirt hiking path.
Overall the path is very stable and weaves back and forth to decrease the slope up to the falls.
We enjoyed the views and taking pictures of the scenery.
We recommend stopping to view Treasure Falls. They are right off the highway.

Treasure Falls is easy to find, its located north of Pagosa Springs, Colorado. Right before you get to Wolf Creek pass. If your going going north, its on right hand side of the road. There is parking for about 20 cars, and there's larger parking for RV's & larger vehicles along side off the main Hwy road.
There are 2 trails that get to falls. Beware that neither are wheelchair friendly. Because of the tree roots that poke up from the ground, steep inclines, loose rocks & narrow walkways. That make it challenging for someone in wheelchair to make up to the falls. The main trail is the easiest way to get up the falls. This trail has signs on points of interest. It's more user friendly.
The other trail is a bit unkempt, and there's is no signs indicating where to go. Many people were getting lost. So many side trails were made by people, and makes it difficult to navigate. And it's way steeper & narrower. If you have physical disabilities, have little one's, or have pets. Do not use this trail!
When you get up to falls, it's breathtaking wonder. A narrow bridge gives you a panoramic view of the falls. There's a small area, where the water flows down the mountain. That you can sit down at. But it can only fit about 3 to 4 people. You can walk a little further up, and get a closer look at the waterfall. You can feel the cool mist, blowing off the falls. Which makes it a refreshing experience. Overall, it's a great stop to getaway from the hustle of everyday life. I highly recommend this place!

Definitely worth a quick stop on your way to Pagosa Springs. The view from the parking lot is great. There is a trail that goes up to a bridge that is halfway to the top. But then if you venture slightly farther there is an observation deck. You can feel the mist from the falls at the deck and it's visibly sleek. Awesome picture opportunity. There are too trail options. The main trail was wide and not too strenuous. Pretty short distance for a quick hike up.

This was our first trip to the area near the end of April. The drive there was so breathtaking, not to mention our arrival! What a spectacular view! The trail is only about a 1/4 of a mile to the bridge and/or the lookout deck. It took maybe 15 min to reach the lookout point. Nice and easy. My mom has bad knees and made it. She just stopped to rest here and there. If she can do it, anyone can. We arrived around 11am with only 1 car in the parking lot, before people came packing in the parking lot around 11:30am. The weather was great!

The falls are beautiful and easily accessed from the parking area. The hike is a little challenging in a couple of spots but I had on shoes with no tread and was fine. Go early- we went at 10:00 a.m. with no crowd and when we drove by at 1:30 p.m. the parking area was packed.

Treasure Falls is a 100-foot waterfall just of US-160 15 miles east of Pagosa Springs. We visited in early April and it was still very snowy. The falls are viewable from the parking area and two short trails lead up to the base. The main trail is pretty easy and the primitive trail is quite steep. We wore micro-spikes and went up the primitive trail and then back down the easy trail. Don't attempt without traction devices if its icy. There is a footbridge across the creek well below the falls and the Misty Deck for a closer view up close. As the name implies, you will get wet at the deck. Overall, a beautiful waterfall and worth an easy stop if in the Pagosa Springs area.

This is a great little hike, not far from Pagosa Springs. There are 2 trails up to the falls - on the right is the primitive trail, featuring a more steep, but shorter, climb. We went up that way. The other trail, on the left from the parking area, is longer, with more switch backs, and less steep. We took that path back down. Treasure Falls itself is beautiful, with a small rainbow at the bottom. You can also wade in the water at the bottom. Around the falls, it is much cooler, like a natural A/C!

Treasure Falls is a nice treat to experience but be mindful of the season that you are there. If you are there in June, July, and some of August then you’ll get sprayed with a delightful cooling mist as the falls will be in full bloom. By September it tapers down to a water falls without the mist and a pond that you can dip your feet.
The trail is wide yet it is not smooth for the most part. Nature continues to change it’s condition. Take your time with breaks due to altitude but any flat footer can easily do the trail. Great views of Saddle Mountain to your west. There is a trail on the southern side once you reach the bridge on top. This trail is narrow and steeper but doable for those with balance.
If the falls is fully engaged, the trail at the very top has a sheen of slippery packed dirt surface from the heavy mist. But this can be avoided by standing just a few yards further back.

I would imagine regular hours as you do not want to be there too early or late. Go when the sun is shining as it's too slippery and dangerous at night. You will not find many safeguards anywhere there or elsewhere. Not to say Colorado is dangerous, but their idea of a safe trail is different than where most people are from. Wear hiking boots, and guard your unit.

Are there rest rooms / portajohns currently open at this area? I've seenconflicting statements in the past.
Written May 23, 2018
There are no restrooms at Treasure Falls. There is a rest area with restrooms and picnic tables outside of South Forks, after going over a Wolf Creek Pass.

We are planning a trip in Early March, any tips on weather and what we should pack?
Written December 28, 2017
Hi it is winter in early March. However this falls it right by the highway. Hike up may be very icy and snowy. We were up here at the end of March last year and it was very snowy. 4 feet high in some places. Did not have boots so stuck to paved routes. This year no snow up here yet. It is somewhat cold. Depends on what part of the country you are coming from. Days can be in 40s and nights in teens.

Most of the water in mountain streams contains Giardia which can cause severe stomach problems. The only way to drink it is to boil it first, so please don't even try unless you want to ruin your trip.

Is the hike surrounded by drop offs? My 4 yr old son with mild autism is impulsive and unpredictable. I don't want to risk him being near an edge.
Written July 3, 2017
Sorry for the delay, I'd recommend you'd avoid the hike with your son. At the least, you may want to explain your concern with your operator

Hi, We're planning to visit Pagosa Spring this summer. Can anyone recommend any places and things to do. Thanks Adrian
Written May 16, 2016
We have a cabin near Pagosa Springs so are in town several times each year. Great places to visit are: Wolf Creek Pass (take the side road to the north near the top of the pass for great views); Chimney Rock located several miles to the west of Pagosa (ancient dwellings and good views); the Ally Restaurant is wonderful for fine dining; the Pagosa Baking Company is yummy for breakfast, lunch and baked goods; Treasure Falls at the base of the west side of Wolf Creek pass is a nice easy 1/4-mile hike to see the falls up close; of course the Springs, with pools of various temperatures is a must; Coyote Janes is a good place to buy reasonably priced Indian jewelry; and there are hot springs you can hike to north of Pagosa. You can get information at the visitor's center, or pick up a visitor's guide when you get to town.
