About
You have a unique opportunity to "break the earthly bonds of gravity," and if you've been dreaming about flying -- try this! The adventure begins shortly after sunrise when the mountain air is still calm and stable. Ballooning is an "hands-on" participation sport, and we will enlist your energy in the set-up and inflation of the balloon (optional). Have your camera ready to capture the excitement as our beautiful giant balloon rises for its journey. You'll then climb aboard our basket for the flight of a lifetime enjoying the enchanting sights and tranquility that can only be experienced from a hot air balloon. We may fly inches over the area lakes for a breathtaking "splash-n-dash," a little higher for some souvenir pine cones from the tops of trees or up to 3,000 feet for a 200 mile panoramic view of 4 states. After the dreamlike floating sensation of the balloon, you'll enjoy a closing ceremony back on the ground.

What a great group of people! Knowledgeable, friendly and willing to answer any questions. The trip was so much fun. They were so efficient in getting the group organized and letting us help with inflating the balloon. I would highly recommend this activity to anyone who has the opportunity to participate.

Best experience in Pagosa Springs & we went to two Hot Springs, two outdoor concerts, went shopping downtown & made glass art. We have been tandem paragliding in the Alps and the Hot air balloon ride was right up there with that. The pilot was knowledgeable & personable as were all the crew. We were made to feel comfortable & didn’t have to help unless we wanted too. We felt completely safe and excited from my 75 year old mother to my 18 year old daughter- we all enjoyed our selves and would recommend it to anyone.

The ride in the hot air balloon with Austin as pilot was a once in a life time experience. He has a second to none crew that help make the trip unforgettable. These 4 young men not only did the work but had a good time doing it. The view was great you just float where the wind takes you. Customer service is great we were booked to go on Wed but they called and told us the weather did not look good for Wed if we could be there earlier they would reschedule us and it work out that we could go on Tues. If you would ever want to take a hot air balloon ride I would definitely recommend using this group of young men for your ride!!

For my 60-somethingth birthday, I treated myself to a hot air balloon ride with Rocky Mountain Balloon Adventures. I had an absolutely fabulous time! The crew was well organized, professional and friendly. The basket was sturdy and securely attached to the balloon. The 30-minute flight went off without a hitch, offering spectacular views of the mountain town I call home. Upon landing, we celebrated the successful flight with a champagne toast and baked goodies. All of this for a price that I thought was very reasonable. I'm already looking ahead to my next flight! I enthusiastically recommend RMBA to anyone considering a hot air balloon ride when visiting Pagosa Springs.

The place to soar if you are ever going to go! We went ballooning with Austin this weekend and had a truly awe-inspiring experience. Austin, owner and pilot, was terrific! His clear professionalism (as well as that of his entire team) left us feeling completely confident that we were safe and thus, able to relax and enjoy an incredibly fun and beautiful morning. Don't miss the champagne ceremony after the flight... it is a whole bit of fun above and beyond the flight itself! And the photos by Angela were worth seeing. For a small fee, we left with a one of a kind photo of ourselves with dear friends, enjoying a "bucket list" moment!

This was such a great activity for my groups vacation in Pagosa Springs. The actual crew for this is quite large. There were about 4 staff who help get the balloon set up and taken down. Even though the website says that as a patron, you help set up and take down as well, we didn't need to as we would just be in the way. Then there were 2 pilots as well. All staff were extremely lighthearted, funny, and interactive with the patrons. What I didn't see on their website was that there will be professional photographers who take your picture pre, during, and post balloon ride. This is a separate cost to purchase the photos; our group of 4 paid a total of $200 ($50 per person) to get the flash drive of all the pictures taken (and there was a lot) along with a small collage of printed photos of our choice.

Our experience from start to finish with Rocky Mountain Balloon Adventures was awesome in the true sense of the word. My husband, son (8), daughter (6) and myself were all blown away by the views and the peacefulness of the ride! We all felt very safe the entire time and my son, who is terrified of airplane rides and roller coasters wanted to go on another ride right after we landed! The owner is very experienced and shares his knowledge of hot air ballooning and the area with the entire group. Watching the set up and break down of the balloon was so much fun and really added a lot to our experience. The price is so reasonable for a bucket list adventure! I HIGHLY recommend a magical family morning with Rocky Mountain Balloon Adventures! Thanks guys!!! -Leslie from TX!

Sitting on the condo patio drinking coffee one morning and saw the balloon rise. I had forgotten that this is available in Pagosa. I got online and found the web site immediately and within 5 minutes was able to reserve a place for my wife and I for later in the week. Much more than just getting in the basket of the balloon and taking a short ride. Participants meet the crew and watch as they unpack the balloon and the basket and get everything ready. Then they start blowing air in to inflate the balloon and finally adding heat to make the balloon rise. They have a photographer who has you pose with the balloon during its various stage of set up. The ride last 30 minutes with great views of the Pagosa area and San Juan mountains. After the ride you can watch the reverse packing up of the balloon. The final part is a champagne toast and quick history of hot air ballooning. The entire experience takes about 2.5-3 hours. Well worth the money and time.

So glad the weather was great! OK we've been wanting to do this for awhile. So why not 40th anniversary NO thanks to covid. But a little over year later here we are & so glad we did. Had fun with the group that worked the balloon. All questions answered. Austin the pilot landed the balloon in a church parking lot with cars & we didn't even feel it touch the ground. The thrill of being that high off the ground (about 2000 feet) was exciting. The crew was funny & personable. Serving champagne & donuts was cool also. Had a beautiful and fun time. Fellowship with other balloon passengers was also appreciated.

There was a French Man, an Irish Man, A House, Champagne, Donuts, and a Hot Air Balloon. The only things missing were retro Rocky Mountain Balloon Adventures Shirts. I mean the early 2000s want their shirts back ya know? Honestly the best core group of pilots and staff in the state. We are planning on returning with the whole family this time. Safe, Easy, Reliable People. Looks like the competition in the city prefers to do a Dunk And Dash (Feet Soaked by the lake) while RMBA prefer a Dip n Dash IYKYK

We are traveling to CO in June and we were wondering what kind of advice was given by parents of smaller kids after the adventure. We really want to go but don’t want it to be too much for the kiddos. Our boys are 6 and 3. Any advice or suggestions?
Doe
Pagosa Springs, CO
Although we discourage flyers under the age of 5 because the noise of the burners can be loud and scary to younger children, the choice is left up to each family. You know your kids best.
Mike, the pilot's biggest advice for young kids is ear plugs to block the noise. He tries to keep them handy but sometimes runs out, so we recommend bringing your own. Enjoy!
How much does this cost?

Prices are currently $155 for adults and $125 for kids 12 and under. You can book your flight on our website (which TripAdvisor prohibits me from posting here, but is on our business listing page). We hope to see you soon!

Planning for a balloon ride around mid of November. Is it a good idea ?
Tammy H
Colby, KS75 contributions
Definitely!! The view will be fabulous if there is snow in the mountains and on the ground! Mike and his crew will do everything under their power to make sure you and the other passengers are kept safe during the flight. You will enjoy every aspect of the experience, which will include inflating the balloon, the flight and deflating the balloon. It will be a ride you will never forget. We will definitely do it again the next time we are in the area. Just be aware, if the weather is bad or it is windy, the flight could either be postponed or cancelled, so be prepared for that. Otherwise, you will have a great time and it will be so worth your time! Have a great flight.

Just curious if this is year round? Coming at the end of July and also wondering what it cost per person. Do you need to make a reservation?
Doe
Pagosa Springs, CO
Hello! Yes, we do have flights year-round depending upon the weather. Reservations are required and July is part of our busy season. We recommend booking in advance and have just opened up our calendar to include dates for the summer months.
We are redesigning our website, but prices can be found there (rules state I cannot add that link but it's in our profile) and you can book your flight online as well.
We look forward to seeing you!
How long does the flight last

The flight is 30 or 40 minutes. But you arrive at 7 and finish around 10. You watch or participate in all of the set up on both ends. The launch and the landing. It's fascinating.
