We were provided 2 fun days with our guide, Ben!!! The first day was a trip filled with fun—going up to Creede we went off track for a look at a couple of interesting rock formations & as we got closer the fun facts got funnier & less tactful!! We enjoyed looking at the exterior builds of how the ore was moved about after the miners brought it up& had it moved to the assayers office. We enjoyed the Bachelor’s Loop..all was fun & lots of facts—ghosts towns, burro bones, abandoned buildings, red light booty houses—the underground museum
was closed so we took a road less traveled ‘ headed up to Last Chance mine. What a tremendous bonus!!! We met Jack the owner & he told us fun facts about how he acquired & restored the mine..our mining guide, Scotty, was a hoot! He truly was full of fun & fact with a lot of fiction thrown in…a great storyteller with lots of enthusiasm he told us some tall tales & some amazing facts about Last Chance & how much the mountain loves Jack!!
Don’t miss this one!!!
The second trip was a 1/2 day 4 wheeling adventure with a 20 year anniversary celebration thrown in!! Ben, another couple celebrating their special day & us went on an adventure..up hills, over rocky roads, dodging ruts & ridges, splashing through the mud! We were all laughing, gasping & giggling fearlessly
—although some were nervous squeals!
A photo shoot at an incredible waterfall & another dramatic shot with the golden quaking aspens reminded us we were indeed in colorful colorado —fall in the Rockies!!
Thank you Ben for giving us oldsters 2 very special days exploring around Pagosa Springs!!

This tour offered an alternative to other railroad itineraries. We appreciated the sunrise transportation and the opportunity to experience the most remote part of the Cumbres railway views, have lunch, and be back in Pagosa at a reasonable hour before dark. The van was comfortable but the back seat was a bit cramped. Lots of great autumn memories!

this is a great way to get to Wolf Creek skiing from Pagosa Springs. great drivers, very courteous, and always on time. They take the pressure of you and expertly drive you on the winding, icy road up and down the mountain.

We were thrilled to book a train ride of Cascade Canyon (had wanted to Silverton but there was either nothing available or train wasn’t running). We were 3 adults in our party. We received an email back that we needed to cancel or buy another ticket because their minimum is 4. They sold us a child’s ticket for $97 instead of an adult ticket. All of the emails instructed us to meet at The Lodge and the title of the Adventure was “Train Tour of Cascade Canyon 10am-4:15pm”. The night before, I read through all the info they had sent (5-6 emails) to determine what we needed to take with us, confirm times, etc. The next morning, I received a call at 7:30am, asking where we were, even though we had been told to meet at The Lodge at 10am in the emails. Essentially the train departs from Durango at 10, so we should’ve been told to meet at The Lodge at 7:30-45. So of course we couldn’t make that excursion. Also, ends up the train actually departs Durango at 9:30am so we wouldn’t have made it anyway. We were so disappointed. After a personal visit with the owner, all our money was refunded. I would normally give this adventure a rating of 1 but feel like it needs to be rated higher because the owner behaved very honorably and did the right thing. I will book again when we’re back in Pagosa next time.

We had our family of Adults, teens and children go rafting in Pagosa Springs with Wilderness Journey. We called just the day before to schedule and they worked hard to get us boats and guide so our group of 11 could go. Great Service. We had great guides who told history of the river during the trip and demonstrated great experience in steering the boats on the river. Our only regret is that it didn't last longer. We got on the river at 9:49 and off at 10:15 . A great time was had by all on this very fast river.

Hello 61kathrynw,
We always try to do our best when it comes to last minute requests. When the river is running fast the trips go fast and when it runs slower, the trip goes slower. Glad to hear that your group had a fun on the trip! Hope to see you again!
Thank you,

We have used Wilderness Journeys for a shuttle to/from Durango Airport to Pagosa and they have always provided excellent service. Great communication when booking, on time for pickup, and very friendly drivers. Also appreciated them working with us when their have been flight delays also. Our driver this trip, Dave, was great!

Our guide, Ben, was excellent. He had many interesting stories about the area and history along our trip. Great driver and the vehicle was a beast! Excellent scenery and the mud was flying as we raced through the various water pockets. I would recommend using Wilderness Journeys as you look to experience all that Pagosa Springs has to offer.

Ben Vaughn took us on a half day 4 x 4 tour and it was perfect. Adrenaline rush and he was very informative. He was great about telling us unique things about the area, gave us great stories to remember forever, took us on a hike to the waterfalls. We never felt rushed and I would recommend him to anyone that goes to Pagosa Springs!! Everyone loved my video I posted on social media

On September 20th, my wife & I took a half day 4x4 guided tour into the mountains, near the Continental Divide. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the area & provided great historical information about the roads & trails we traverse. The terrain was rugged & the views were gorgeous. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience & would highly recommend it.

We had a great time on the two-hour float down the San Juan River today. Jacob was our guide and Greg was our driver. Both were EXCELLENT. It was a beautiful float and Jacob made sure we were all entertained and all WET. Our group of six included 3 adults and 3 teenagers - who all had a fantastic time. We will be back next year!

What times of year are you usually closed? We are planning a trip for October 20th, 2018 and wanting to see what is available to do during that time.

Your trip plans are too late to get in the back country to see the changing leaves and too soon for skiing. You are most likely to be here during hunting season. I have no idea if Wilderness Journey offers hunting trips, but there are several good guides.
