- BrssjunkTucson, Arizona1,149 contributionsShort trail for a nice walkThe Baby Bath Tubs trail is an extension of the Ouray Perimeter trail. While it is classed as a simple hike, I would recommend using walking poles. There are several places where loose gravel makes it a bit slick and some of the walkway is relatively steep. Along the trail we saw some nice flowers and butterflies, but of course the purpose of the trail is to take you up to an area where you can get into the water on the creek.Visited July 2021Written July 16, 2021
- BeckibeckaAurora, Colorado436 contributions#1 for usThis was our favorite "hike" on our trip to Ouray. We went with our 11 and 8 year olds. I wasn't sure what to expect, but it turned out being a lot of fun. Plus, every other home was crowded and this was empty. Bring water shoes! When you get to the trailhead, climb down to the water and hike through the creek. You do need to be able-bodied to scurry up over the small rock waterfalls, but this was the fun part for us. There are a million different kinds of rocks, so it was great fun for our little geologist. Even my oldest who hates to hike loved this. It was really neat to do this after going on a mine tour too, because we understood more about what we were looking at.Visited September 2020Traveled with familyWritten September 26, 2020

Easy hike you can climb up parts in the water. A giant thank u to the gal from Texas who helped me when I tripped on the last stepVisited August 2020Traveled as a coupleWritten August 1, 2020

Stopped at the parking lot, ignored the trail, and since the water was low we hopped straight into the stream and hiked up. Within a hundred yards there are 5 or 6 little waterfalls/obstacles to climb past. It’s like doing a little mini kids’ slot canyon. One of the coolest little hikes I’ve seen!

Baby Bath Tub is a lovely easy short hike. You go along a bedrock creek bed. Do it as part of the Perimeter Trail or access it directly from the Ampitheatre Campground parking lot.

We took this hike in the morning along with our grand children. It's an easy hike through the woods and long the riverbed. All thoroughly enjoyed the trip. I would advise bug spray because mosquitos were bothersome.

Went for this short / beautiful hike yesterday. Easy access with just a few parking spots at the base. We followed the trail up (.3 miles) and continued toward Portland Trail head (approx. .3 more miles) then turned back, unsure at the time where Portland would take us out. We saw deer in the open meadow and lots of wildflowers. The rushing water was refreshing to ears as well as the feet!!

Easy hike! There was just one spot that took some effort. It is a high step up but there is a rock that you could step on to help.
The trail is very well maintained.
Unfortunately there was no water in the "tubs" or the creek that feeds into it due to the lack of snowpack from last winter and a fairly dry spring. But it was still beautiful!

This is a great outing with kids while in Ouray. Yes, it is a "hike" though you don't have to hike far to get to the baby bathtubs - basically rocks and pools that are easy to climb on and play in. I imagine that certain times of the year the water might be running higher, but for an early August outing it was perfect for kids (my youngest is 6, and did fine). Wear bathing suits or clothes you don't mind getting wet, and be prepared to stay awhile as your kids will not want to leave!

This is an easy hike, short and sweet, with little ones and even older kids. They always have a great time. Nice view of Ouray from the parking spot.

Great short hike. The kids love this trail and ask to go on it every time we visit Ouray. It follows the river and there are lots of trees for shade. The trailhead has some great views and is on the amphitheater road which has camping, great places for picnics, and great views of town.

My kids really enjoyed this trail. When we got to the baby bathtubs, they enjoyed playing in the water and attempting to dam up the stream with the river rocks. (They broke their "dam" and returned the rocks to the shore when they were done. Leave No Trace.) It was just a really fun, scenic, peaceful place.

This is a great trail for a warm up hike in the mountains if you are a flatlander adjusting to the altitude. I hiked it right after a rain and it was very slippery in spots. Use hiking poles.
