We joined another couple for a 6 hour tour to photograph flowers in Yankee Boy Basin. Fortunately, we had reserved the trip several months ago since the tour companies are all pretty much booked up for the season. We traveled up with Sam who was an excellent guide. We hit the basin very near the peak of the flower season and the views were out of sight! Sam was an excellent guide making us feel very safe even on the more "interesting" roads along the edges of the cliffs. We wanted to know the names of all the flowers that we were shooting, and while he didn't know all of the flowers, he had a book along and was very patient in helping us to find them. We made many stops to get out and explore and never felt rushed, and yet we got back right on time.

The truck was a newer model and was very comfortable. Two of us rode in the cab and two of us had the seats in the back and were able to shoot in all directions from the open area. That only became a problem in the afternoon when the rain came in. One of the people remained in the back, but there was a canvas cover which helped to keep him dry.

Along the trip, Sam pointed out points of interest other than the flowers and also helped us spot the wildlife. We even got photos of a snowshoe hare!

I highly recommend this tour, and if you are lucky enough to get him, we recommend Sam as your guide!

Wanted a great tour so we booked a private VIP custom tour that lasted 6 hours that got us waterfalls, flowers, hidden trails not done by the big rigs. Jeep had custom seats that were very comfortable going over the very rough terrains. Ask for Sam one of the most experienced drivers who made the trip super fun. We even stopped and prospected for gold. If you do this, consider private booking to get exactly what you want and a tour of memories.

We had a jeep reserved with a different company and were planning to drive up to Imogene Pass. At the last minute, that company called and said our Jeep had broken down and nothing else was available. It’s the busy season so every 4 wheel drive vehicle in the area was already booked. As I was calling all over town I found the tour companies and figured what the heck why not just let someone else drive us up the mountain. I chose Alpine Scenic Jeep Tours because the heated bucket seats on their trucks looked way more comfortable than the metal bench seats of the other companies (I was right. You get bounced around quite a bit and the seats were very comfy). The tour up to Imogene Pass and back was great and our guide was very knowledgeable about the area and its history. I wouldn’t hesitate to book another tour with them any time. PS - The attached photo is our tour guide. Yes, his face is stuck like that! LOL.

Booked a tour to Imogene Pass. Essentially it is a scenic tour. Don't expect many stops to be able to take pictures. We got out once to take a picture by the waterfall. Our tour driver was the lead driver and he had another Alpine Scenic tour driver and his customers in a truck behind us. I'm assuming the lead driver has more experience. We were also in a newer truck that was able to handle the road better than the second drivers truck which was older. Thru out the tour the driver of the truck behind us had a couple of issues on the road. I don't know if it was driver related or truck related.....we almost made it to the top but our driver decided to turn back around because of low visibility at the top as well as the capability of the truck behind us. I am obviously not an expert in what conditions would cause them to turn around and not complete the tour. However I do know the driver did not mention anything about lightening or storms. Obviously safety first , but it was disappointing to not be able to see the last stretch only to have to turn around because of the second truck probably not being able to make it.
The lady in the office and tour driver were both super polite and helpful. The heated seats were wonderful. We booked at the last minute and it definitely was "a scenic tour" with one stop at a waterfall for pictures. If you want more stops to take pictures I would choose a different tour. It was mostly driving but it was fun.

At Alpine Scenic Tours we take safety first. What this review did not mention was that we had rain the entire trip. This is unusual but it does happen. The road was very muddy and our lead guide, Jason, made the decision that it was unsafe to continue to the top of the pass. The other part of his decision was the fact that there was zero visibility and even if they were able to get to the very top there would have been nothing to see other than the inside of a cloud. We make multiple stops on our tours for photos but when it is raining our clients usually take photos from under our protective canopy. Our guides always tell clients to ask if they request to stop and get out. These guests did not nor did any other on the trip. I feel like we got a poor review due to weather. Our heated seats and rainfly protect against this but unfortunately you can not please all of the people all of the time. Please read some of Jason's or Pauls reviews. They were the two guides on this tour. They are the most professional and talented in the business. I appreciate the positive comments in this review but it unfortunately did not mention the circumstances in which the decisions were made. Thanks for reading, Michael. Owner Alpine Scenic Tours

We were looking for more than a ride to the top of Imogene Pass, we wanted an Adventure and we got the bonus plan from Sam and the team at Alpine Scenic Tours. They were SUPER helpful, friendly, knowledgeable and organized. The ride to the top was the perfect blend of scenic wonder, rugged roads and a sense of expectation for what awaited us at the top of the pass blended beautifully with Sam’s sense of humor, understanding of what we wanted to see and captivating storytelling.
We HIGHLY recommend Alpine for all of those reasons AND heated, bucket seats which made every slab of elephant rock we had to climb and narrow road exciting instead of excruciating!

Thank you Alpine Scenic Jeep Tours for our fantastic private tour. Our family of 4 (mom, dad, two teen boys) went to Silver Basin followed by Governor Basin. Everyone in our party LOVED our guide James. He helped us come up with this itinerary (which was great), his driving made us feel safe, he was very friendly, welcoming, humorous and really informative. We learned a lot about the areas we covered. It was such a pleasure to have him as our guide. Alpine Scenic Jeep Tours were super easy to work with. The Jeep was very comfortable with a combination of outside and inside seats. The scenery, wow! We saw waterfalls, a vibrant blue lake, an old mine shaft, ghost mining towns, working silver mines, wildflowers and majestic mountain peaks. We got some spectacular photos and will have great memories of this exhilarating trip. We would without hesitation recommend Alpine Scenic Jeep Tours and would love to return and do it again one day.

Alpine Scenic Tours is hands down the best choice for backcountry tours in Ouray! My husband and I booked two trips. Joe was very kind in answering all our questions and helping us navigate road closing times on Highway 550 so we didn’t miss our tours. He was quick to respond and was very gracious.

Yesterday we toured Yankee Boy Basin and Governors Basin with Sam. It was absolutely incredible! The scenery was so jaw dropping we ran out of words to describe what we were seeing. Sam was full of wonderful information about the area and it’s history, he stopped multiple times so our group could take photos. He was funny, kind and utterly delightful. He made our trip even better!

Today we toured Corkscrew Pass and Hurricane Pass with James. Also incredible! Forest, mountains, tundra, mule deer, marmots, pika, and switchback roads galore. Wow! James was also an incredible guide. He entertained us, pointed out wildlife and mining history, and he was also hilarious! We had some great conversations on top of the mountain.

We cannot recommend this company enough and would also encourage you to request either Sam or James as your guide.

Alpine Scenic Tours is a must-do if you visit Ouray. We’d do both tours all over again!

What an awesome trip we had with Paul! We took a private afternoon tour and enjoyed every minute. I am 25 weeks pregnant and was worried about it being too rough- when I called initially to inquire about a tour the company was very kind and assured me that they could accommodate my situation and take us on roads that weren't too rough. They definitely delivered! I felt comfortable and safe the whole time, and our guide, Paul, was exceptionally cautious and courteous. He took us to places that were completely void of other people, even though the mountains are currently crawling with tourists. It was a great day and we would highly recommend this company and Paul to anyone! The Gladiator was also really comfortable, we rode inside part of the time to enjoy the guide's great stories and info, and rode in the captains seats in the back on the way down. Both were fantastic.

We took a private tour in August of 2020. Sam was our guide and was absolutely fantastic. He was friendly and fun. We had two teenage girls who love animals and he went out of his way to point out all the wildlife he could find. He noticed I was interested in the wildflowers and again he went out of his way to show me different varieties and had quite an impressive knowledge of the local flora and fauna. He took us up to Imogene pass and it was AMAZING! There really is nothing better than being up in the high alpine air with sweeping vistas on all sides! It was incredibly beautiful and we captured some breathtaking photos. We had so much fun with Sam we asked him to be in one of our pictures from the top of Imogene pass (I uploaded the pic if you care to see it). After that, we ended the trip with a waterfall visit and Sam broke open some rocks to show us pyrite or “fool’s gold” and sent us home with a few samples! All in all we had a wonderful time. This was our second tour with Alpine Scenic Jeep Tours and I highly recommend this company. You can have full confidence in their experienced and knowledgeable drivers. I’m already thinking about another tour next year!

Our Corkscrew trip (4 hrs long) was the highlight of our Vacation. I would like to say a big Thank you to Joe (the owner) for his excellent customer service in booking our private tour for 8 people, to Michael for guiding me in selecting what tour to choose from (praying for his speedy and complete recovery as he has met with an accident), and to Sam for being a patient, kind and a wonderful guide. He is a very safe driver esp on the rugged roads going up the mountains, my kids were a bit anxious so he slowed down whenever needed. We were taken aback by the beauty and spectacular views all around. The bucket seats were super comfortable and the main reason we chose Alpine Tours, it was worth it!
