Twice I've been to the park and even as a novice climber it's fantastic. Hook up with a guide service, (San Juan Mountain Guides), and take in even a half day private trip. The scenery is other-worldly and a blast to be in the middle of. First rate, free public access fun.

It appears to be some slight changes with the City of Ouray taking over this park. Water through the canyon appears to be running more freely versus the previous years. Previous years the creek was more frozen. We had to use Park placed wood planks (2x10’s) to cross back and forth from one side to the other. Some planks looked... More

There is absolutely no place in the world (that I know of) that even comes close to what the Ouray Ice Park offers in the way of technical ice climbing. Just call it the 'Land of Frozen Waterfalls', all courtesy of leaking pipes many years ago and a creative group of climbers... if you want to learn to ice climb,... More

We had been daydreaming of going to the Ouray Ice Park for a few years now and finally made our way out for the week of New Year's. After such a wait, we were not at all disappointed. It is a stunningly beautiful area and the routes are well-crafted and well-maintained. There are plenty of options for those just getting... More

Having finally booked a trip to Ouray after 10 years of reading about it, we bit the bullet and travelled from Scotland. We absolutely loved our 10 day visit and managed to climb every day. The Park itself is a paradise for ice climbers and there is something for everyone from beginners to the more advanced technical climber. The Park... More

This place is wicked cool! The staff does a great job at building a world class outdoor ice climbing area, and it's totally free!

This is the most amazing resource for aspiring and experienced ice climbers. Dozens of climbs with a wide range of difficulty, and incredibly easy access right out of town. It's like a massive playground with all of the coolest toys. Great place to take newbies and curious experimentalists, and for endurance training. Tons of established bolts and pads for top-roping,... More

This has been added in recent years and is a spectacular place for ice climbing. You need to get there early in the day to get the best routes, but there are plenty of routes to choose from with everything from easy (just outside the park) to extremely advanced.

Love this place. My wife and I have been coming here twice every winter for the last 12 years. Tons of climbing, although it can still get really crowded even with over a mile of ice to climb. Avoid weekends if at all possible or get up early to get a route. We spend most of our time in New... More

It gets busy but that is for a reason. Climbing on steep ice can initially be a frightening undertaking, it takes time and practice to get the required skills. The beauty of the Ice Park is that you can top rope to your hearts content and so acquire those skills with a relative degree of safety. (it's still climbing though,... More
