My husband and I booked the Expedition Overnight, which included a horseback ride up Red Mountain, a delicious 3 course dinner, sleeping in a luxurious yurt and breakfast. The whole experience was incredible and we are so happy we did it! The location is between Silverton and Ouray, so you have to drive on the Million Dollar Highway and when you do your research you may get an uneasy feeling knowing that you have to drive on it. Please know if you have some mountain driving experience you will be fine (driving up Pike's Peak is way scarier than driving on the Million Dollar Highway). Taking the drive is totally worth for the experience Action Adventures has to offer. Our guide was Kristy and Bailey was our chef. They were both wonderful and they made us feel very welcome! It was the first time we both sat on a horse and Kristy did a great job explaining the basics on how to direct the horse. She also took some great pictures of us at the peak!

Action Adventures was creative in accommodating a short notice request. They created a slot for a private ride for six riders on Red Mountain. The scenery was terrific, the guides (Cole and Kristy) knowledgeable and patient. Our group was relatively inexperienced and ranged in ages from 10 to 55. We all had a terrific time! I would highly recommend.

My family of four did the two-hour Buckaroo ride in Ouray and it was among the highlights of our nearly seven week road trip. Action Adventure lives up to its name, because the ride was not only beautiful but also challenging and, at times, action-packed.

Other than the ride itself and the incredible scenery, the thing that stands out to me is how kind Justin was when my family arrived. When I booked I had to describe the people in our party and I mentioned that my 11 year old has various disabilities that could be relevant to the guide. Justin clearly had reviewed the information and was super attuned to our family’s needs and was very emotionally intelligent about both of my kids. He assigned a second guide to our group—I don’t think that’s typical—and the main guide had my son’s horse on a lead the whole time. Anyway, I could write more but basically this ride was totally different from the ride we’d done just two days earlier at Hi Country Stables in Rocky Mountain National Park, which was also very fun but was far less heart pounding.

The guide knew how to fit her training to suit an individual's experience. She gave the perfect amount of commentary as to inform while still allowing you to enjoy the scenery. The views were like postcards at every turn.

My husband and I are both experienced horse owners who went to Ouray for a short vacation. We wanted to see some of the higher mountain country from horseback, so scheduled the 2 hour guided ride. We found the horses to be in very good condition, well cared for and gentle. Some of the trails were slick with mud due to rain the night before, so we didn't see the waterfall, which was fine with us. The backcountry was beautiful and quiet as hoped and we had a nice ride. We recommend these outfitters to others looking for a good ride in that vertical, spectacular country.

Everyone was helpful as we prepared for our ride, giving us basic information and help in getting mounted when our horses were ready. But most notable was our wrangler, Leia, who lead our ride. She was consistently patient, helpful, encouraging and shared information about our horses and the environment we were riding through.Thank you, Leia, for a beautiful ride!!!

My partner and I did the Red Mountain ride on Saturday September 5th. We had the dream team guides! The horses were awesome. It is a very steep ride to the 12,200 foot summit but the horses were sure footed and awesome! I highly recommend this ride!

We had a great ride. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the area and taught us a lot. The horses were well behaved and well cared for. Beautiful area for a ride too! Justin and his team also were flexible on time since the weather was bad the day we were scheduled to ride.

Such a great experience! We were booked for the 4 hour ride, but it had to be cut short due to the crazy amount of rain the area has gotten recently. However, our guides did a great job making up for the loss of getting all the way to the top of the mountain. Justin and Paul were really great and our family, 7 adults, had a wonderful experience. We will definitely be back to get all the way up next time!
