My husband and I booked the Expedition Overnight, which included a horseback ride up Red Mountain, a delicious 3 course dinner, sleeping in a luxurious yurt and breakfast. The whole experience was incredible and we are so happy we did it! The location is between Silverton and Ouray, so you have to drive on the Million Dollar Highway and when you do your research you may get an uneasy feeling knowing that you have to drive on it. Please know if you have some mountain driving experience you will be fine (driving up Pike's Peak is way scarier than driving on the Million Dollar Highway). Taking the drive is totally worth for the experience Action Adventures has to offer. Our guide was Kristy and Bailey was our chef. They were both wonderful and they made us feel very welcome! It was the first time we both sat on a horse and Kristy did a great job explaining the basics on how to direct the horse. She also took some great pictures of us at the peak!

Action Adventures was creative in accommodating a short notice request. They created a slot for a private ride for six riders on Red Mountain. The scenery was terrific, the guides (Cole and Kristy) knowledgeable and patient. Our group was relatively inexperienced and ranged in ages from 10 to 55. We all had a terrific time! I would highly recommend.

The guide knew how to fit her training to suit an individual's experience. She gave the perfect amount of commentary as to inform while still allowing you to enjoy the scenery. The views were like postcards at every turn.

My husband and I are both experienced horse owners who went to Ouray for a short vacation. We wanted to see some of the higher mountain country from horseback, so scheduled the 2 hour guided ride. We found the horses to be in very good condition, well cared for and gentle. Some of the trails were slick with mud due to rain the night before, so we didn't see the waterfall, which was fine with us. The backcountry was beautiful and quiet as hoped and we had a nice ride. We recommend these outfitters to others looking for a good ride in that vertical, spectacular country.

Everyone was helpful as we prepared for our ride, giving us basic information and help in getting mounted when our horses were ready. But most notable was our wrangler, Leia, who lead our ride. She was consistently patient, helpful, encouraging and shared information about our horses and the environment we were riding through.Thank you, Leia, for a beautiful ride!!!

My partner and I did the Red Mountain ride on Saturday September 5th. We had the dream team guides! The horses were awesome. It is a very steep ride to the 12,200 foot summit but the horses were sure footed and awesome! I highly recommend this ride!

We had a great ride. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the area and taught us a lot. The horses were well behaved and well cared for. Beautiful area for a ride too! Justin and his team also were flexible on time since the weather was bad the day we were scheduled to ride.

This report should have gone in during August but there must have been a problem with Save/Upload.

A tremendous day.

Having done several half day rides with Action Adventures in the mountains North of Ouray we decided that we would go out for a full day to get a chance to get a bit further into the mountains. As always, Action Adventures provided excellent horses for these trails and a guide, Eric, who couldn't have been better for this particular day.

Because of the deep snow of last winter, there was still snow in the higher mountain areas into July. We were to be the first riders this year on these trails after the departure of most of the snow. We got an idea of what we would encounter when Eric strapped a large saw onto his horse. Yes, there were many trees down over the narrow trails and we had quite a few stops to cut through and then remove these obstructions as there were no viable ways round the blockages. Just to further improve things we had a mini-cloudburst so we all got pretty wet and got to know the mud around the fallen trees too well. We were asked if we wanted to turn back but we were enjoying ourselves far too much to want to go back. To give you an idea of the narrowness of some of the trails, when we stopped to help Eric clear away the trees the only safe way to get off/on the horse was using the "non-standard" side (right) side. Glad that we are used to doing that as the alternative on the "normal" side was a long drop down a steep slope. All great fun!

Lunch was a stop on a shoulder of the mountain and the provided bag (box) meal was tremendous. Great food for a day out on a horse and more than enough to have kept us going all day, not just a lunch. Our compliments to the Chef!

Having taken longer than expected to get up, there wasn't enough time to take the usual route back as that was likely to have tress down as well. However, we did manage a few diversions so that the way back was not quite the same as the way up.

Overall one of the best days that I have had out on a horse, and a bit different to the usual trail ride. Many thanks to Eric and Action Adventures.

My wife and I are both experienced riders with our own horses at home. However, you don't have to be an experienced rider to have a great time here. Horses and trails will be tailored to suit the needs of the riders

Consistent high standards at Action Adventures means that we will be returning (again)!

Great scenery on well kept horses. The terrain is challenging in places, and I'd recommend the rider has just a little previous saddle time. For the more experienced rider there's not really the chance to lengthen the stride unless all your party is competent. Definitely great enough to go again.
