We enjoyed our visit here on a day trip tour of three wineries. This was the first stop and you get to learn a lot about the wines and the founder of the winery.

We have never heard of Jean Leon until we visited the winery. It is a small winery with a ton of history. We took a tour on April 17, 2016 and the wine tour guide was Fantastic. We took her time explaining everything she knew and was always happy to answer questions. The company belongs to Torres but they have allowed J.L. to keep its essence. It is a beautiful and modern place and we highly recommend it. The Gigi wine is the best so do try it!
As we were leaving the winery a lot of people showed up and there was only one girl doing the selling, tours and the wine tastings. I hope that as the season progresses they have more than 1 person on duty because that is a lot to handle for one person.

I have visited this winery twice now, 4 years apart. First time in 2018, they only served us 2 wine tastings when normally, they do 4. They were very rude. Now, in Aug 2022, I brought my family and friends here for a winery tour before my wedding. We paid a ton of money for 32 people and when we asked for water and olives, they said, sorry we are closed for the day, so don’t have these things. Water is a basic amenity to give at any wine tour. Also, the first time I was here, they had the best olives, so I chose this winery based on those. I am the bride and the fact that I paid for 32 people to have a wine tasting and they couldn’t spare me a bowl of olives is absolutely heartless, especially when I am getting married in 2 days. I would not recommend coming here because honestly, their wine is not even that great. Jean Leon, himself, would be disappointed.

Bad service!!! Beautiful place but when coming all this way to do a wine tasting and only offered one. What a waste of time! Don’t bother coming here. Our guide was surprised as well and covered for them saying it is this time of year we only serve 1 small tasting. We understood her speaking in Spanish and she said our group was too large. Should have offered us at least 2 choices as to which wine we would try. We are here to taste your wine and learn a little bit about your processThat is why we came!!!

Amazing vineyard with outstanding wines and service. A must see if visiting Montserrat. Has tours and tastings with a video of the history of founder Jean Leon. Reservations are recommended but can be arranged on short notice if you skip the tour. Views are great and wines range from 11€ to 39€, a great selection of Bordeaux wines in Spain 🍷

I especially liked the row of vines of different grape varieties that was clearly labelled at the beginning of each row. As it was the harvesting season, we also get to eat the grapes!! They are different based on the ripeness, skin colour and thickness, sweetness, fragrance, leaves and bunches. The history of this vineyard was narrated very well by the guide.

A rare Catalan wine maker in the Penedès region that is NOT a Cava house. Started in 1963 by the entrepreneur Jean Leon (not his real name), this winery has an interesting Hollywood back story of an immigrant who left Europe to seek his fortune in America first in NY then later California.

Like many of the wineries in California today, this one revels in celebrating their story and your tour starts with a slick 10-minute bio-pic about the scrappy founder and his connections to some of the Hollywood elite from the 1950's like Frank Sinatra. He later went on to create the legendary Hollywood restaurant La Scala and created the winery to supply the restaurant. You can learn the rest of the story when you visit.

Despite the somewhat overdone homage, the wines were surprisingly good. We tasted three - a Chardonnay, Gigi, produced for the restaurant that was light and without the heavy buttery flavors of California, a 100% merlot that was rich and velvety and a Cabernet blend with big bold aromas and very low tannins. All were excellent. It is a pity they don't ship to America although they do have a distributor so it might be possible to find them on the coasts.
