About
Stagecoach State Park sets the stage for great recreation in the lush Yampa Valley by Steamboat Springs. Vistas and views are backdrops to the 820-acre reservoir providing renown lake and river fishing. A year-round destination, the park also makes a great base to explore the variety of sports and attractions of the area. An array of activities await with boating, fishing, hiking, picnicking and camping. Winter offers trails for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and fat-tire biking for those seeking a less commercial experience. In summer, water sports enthusiasts enjoy the many ways to recreate at the reservoir. Off-season and weekday visits are wonderfully serene, providing great opportunities to take pleasure in the land, water and nature without the crowds. Cabin fever in the winter can be relieved by camping in one of the five electrical sites maintained just for winter camping. Stagecoach State Park is a great place to hold base camp when exploring the many outdoor opportunities around the park such as the Flattops Wilderness Area and Sarvis Creek Wilderness Area.

The reservoir was beautiful. There was a strong breeze so it was hard to navigate for novice paddle boarders. There’s a marina to rent pontoon boats. Rangers put on programs for kids visiting. There are a few easy hikes off the swim beach with great views. The only thing I didn’t like was that there was some kind of clumpy green algae in the water. I read that the algae might be toxic for pets but I can’t confirm that. We had a great time and would definitely go back. Water was really refreshing!

Dog ownerss BEWARE! When there is green algae floating on the water, keep your dogs out of the water. The algae is poisonous to dogs. No signs posted or no park personnel informed us of this fact. Another camper told me about another dog who had been swimming in the water and died This was after we had been in the park 3 days.. When we arrived home later in the month of August, Denver TV 7 station had a segment on the effects of green algae floating in lake waters on dogs.
Other than that, we enjoyed biking around the reservoir and hiking on the trails. We also like the Sarvice Wilderness Trail nearby hiking to the wooden bridge 2.5 miles from the trailhead.

Stagecoach is a great spot to visit while in Steamboat. It has a beach to relax while enjoying the cool waters. Rent a boat and go fishing or just cruise around the lake.

I went here on Saturday to do some day hiking and the one thing that really stuck out to me was that the park officers were really rude and ticketing everyone! I saw them go from one person to another giving out tickets.

The facility was clean and although the beach was closed, it was a gorgeous day with plenty of activities to do with family and friends! Book your campground spot ahead of time.

This is a beautiful camping park on a lovely Reservoir. We are kind of late in the season so we were the only ones there, except for one camper, but there were some fisherman out on the lake who seemed very determined since the winds were quite strong. It must be good fishing! It was nice to be in the Low Country out of the mountains for a little bit. The facilities where clean and the campsites looked good. We hoped to see a bit more Wildlife, but it was the middle of the day. There is a cute town nearby, Oak Creek, so don't miss that on the way out.

Hubby and I have been here all summer as Park Hosts. This has been an amazing summer! Back home in Virginia it is hot...humid...and full of mosquitoes but here in Stagecoach we have had no 90 degrees, no humidity and no mosquitoes. The park is so beautiful as it is situated right on the lake. There are plenty of watercraft rentals at the marina and the fishing is legendary. The park has a great staff. We have enjoyed our beautiful blue sky Colorado days and are planning on returning next year!

We go here every August with friends. Nice big, level campsites with picnic table and fire pit. The sites are electric only, but there is a water and dump station on site. We enjoy kayaking, hiking and visits to Steamboat Springs. There is no internet or Wi-Fi. Showers cost $1 for 4 minutes....plenty of time. There's a beach with a swimming area.
Great sunrises and sunsets!

Called first, they assured us there was lots of places for the dogs to get in and out of the water. Once we get there there’s a beach full of trashy looking people and no dogs allowed. So we ask again, where are the places we can take our dogs and get in/out of the water. 2 areas (boat ramp) and picnic area. The picnic area seemed most logical to avoid all the boat traffic so we went there first. It was full of trucks and sailboats and hooks in the water everywhere.... not one sliver of land left to enter water. So, off to the boat ramp. There are two sides and we figured we could see them coming to move when needed. 5 minutes in, truck comes barreling down the ramp we are on and will not stop despite begging and waving of arms. We escaped at the last second and desired this was not a good place either. Upon leaving the lady at the front says “yeah there are lots of a-holes out here”. Never again.
